Re: Carry bag recommendations needed for short pole

Home Depot and Lowes have something called "Drain Sleeve", I think, that is a filter sock that goes over corrugated drain pipe. Until we got a pole bag, we used this on every pole. It comes in a 100-foot roll and is inexpensive. Just tie up one end and cut it about a foot longer than the ...

Re: Carry bag recommendations needed for short pole

Interesting idea, but isn't there something easier, softer and lighter than a pipe? Not sure the diameter would fit in the ski rack either.

Right now, the pole goes in just like a pair of skis and the front and back both have locks built in.

Carry bag recommendations needed for short pole

I now have my own pole - an 11'6" one - and a ski rack on my car that works well with it. Now I need some recommendations on what to put it in before I lock it in the rack. Most I see online are 15 feet long or so, which seems a bit big, and are bulky. The ski rack has size limitations, so it c...

Pole Taping Rules

My right hand tends to slip down at times when vaulting. I bought some stickum spray and that helps. But, I was wondering what the rules say about building up a little extra tape near the top (a bump so to speak) to help prevent my hand from slipping. Thanks. Mike

Welcome to the club! USATF.ORG (Masters Section) to start and masterstrack.com to name two. I'm in Colorado and USATF has a special CO section. Your state might too. Outdoor season is here (or coming later in CO), so go for it!! Mike

Re: Not too late to start pole vaulting again!

Best of luck G.P. - it seems we are in similar circumstances of enjoying vaulting after a long break. Mike

Re: Not too late to start pole vaulting again!

Had my second meet on 1/5/13 and went out at 8'6" again. A little disappointing, but I still had fun though. I have good speed but a constant late/low plant, but I'm improving. A couple of thoughts and questions. I use an 11'6" pole and am probably holding (top hand) at maybe 10'6" or...

Re: Shoes

I pole vault and sprint, and the Nike Rival MD 6 is a good and inexpensive mid-distance shoe. Found them online at First to the Finish for about $30 - a good deal. M.

Re: Not too late to start pole vaulting again!

The advice I have gotten which has worked for me is SLOW - SLOW - SLOW. In exercising, training, vaulting and your attempted weight loss. This is what I was told (review this Thread) and has worked so far. I didn't have to worry about weight but stretching a ton before any exercising (pole vault spe...
