Re: Moving legs faster.
I know this sounds like the basic, how do i get faster thread but it is a little different. I have a team mate this year that is a female vaulter that has jumped 10' holding around 11'6 in high school last year. She is about 5'10 130lb and has never ran more than 5 lefts before in the vault. The bi...

Re: Rope Vaulting - Yay or Nay?
I wonder if we can get Jan to weigh in on this, considering that he implements rope vaulting into the training of his Skyjumpers participants and athletes. I think rope vaulting from a platform as shown in the videos is a useful tool. As a regular participant in this drill while attending Skyjumpers...

Re: Strength training for beginners
First and foremost, I would like to say that my experience teaching somebody how to vault with no experience, is not much. I have worked with a lot of beginners, intermediate, and even a few advanced guys, but not much with the people that have never touched a pole...just my little disclaimer... St...

Re: Strength training for beginners
This might sound kind of repetetive, but I've really come to be a believer in it (from listening to people like altius, reading enough threads on here, and doing it myself)... High bar! Play around, do some ab-specific stuff, drill the swing... You get just about everything you'll need in terms of ...

Strength training for beginners
I though it would be helpful to create a thread that provides information for beginning vaulters on how to train for strength. I am not talking about weightlifting because we already have too many threads that cover that area and plus I feel it is a waste of time for young kids to be spending all th...

Re: Can Hooker Do It?
I would definitely not count Hooker out. You need to take into account the fact that he is the second highest vaulter of all time, won the Olympic gold medal and set the Olympic record on final attempts after taking (I think) a dozen jumps. No doubt the mental toughness is there, it just becomes a m...

Re: Biofreeze
PP what are you using it on? I know you had some hamstring problmes in the past. I prefer Aspercreme.... It has no smell, and no burn. And if rubbed in enough no greesey feel afterwards. After you put it on the pain just seems to go away (most the time for my muscles or shin splints once i rub it i...

Re: Building a base
Look guys, the summertime is not the time to be pressing. I don't care how much you workout or how structured your plan is, any training you do now isn't going to help you much when it counts. I understand not wanting to lose fitness, but you're not competing right now. You need to lose fitness to l...

Re: New one from me...
I think what you need to concentrate the most on is your run. One of the things you are lacking in your run is POWER. You need to push out of the back from the very first step with big, powerful strides. If you do not know what I am talking about then read this book. http://www.amazon.com/Winning-Ju...

Re: Anyone Have a good workout routine
Only from personal experience, i feel that our whole goal is strength FOR OUR BODY WEIGHT. I found it very interesting that the gymnastic guys at PSU are the most cut and look like the strongest guys on campus- and they do absolutely no lifting. Obviously there are benefits of lifting, but i think ...

You need a higher pole carry. Your left arm was bent at the plant, you need to reach up high.
