Re: Tie Breaker - 1st Place - You Interpret
Hi Vaultref. I would like to pick your brain a little bit if you don't mind. What is the rational behind having two different tiebreak methods for the vertical events and only one tiebreak method for the horizontal events? I have no idea. As an official it is not a concern of mine has to why it is ...

Re: Tie Breaker - 1st Place - You Interpret
lets make this clear, we do not move backwards in height progressions to determine who cleared a height before the other vaulter(s) cleared a height. The tie break rule is very clear, at the tied height, who cleared with fewest trails at that height determines the higher place. When that is the same...

Re: Help! The VHSL is considering eliminating the Pole Vault
correct me if I'm off base here, I skimmed the article rather quickly.. Seems to be an issue with those that have no vault and those that do. So use some common sense.... don't remove the vault, just remove it as a scoring event for dual/tri meets. Everyone should be happy with that. Those kids that...

Re: New Box Collar Rule Interpretation (USTFCCCA)
That collar does not look like the two I have since since 1 Dec 2013.. that back edge in your picture looks to be to be nearly vertical. Is it? The collar at the two sites I've been at the edge as the same taper as on the sides. This one one looks really bad! While we have seen some pit shifting.. w...

Re: New Box Collar Rule Interpretation (USTFCCCA)
We had our first competition with the new collar last night. On two different jumps the collar bounced the pole back into the bar after the athlete attempted to throw the pole back. Luckily the official was on top of things and awarded the bar, but this design flaw needs to be worked out. I'm not o...

Re: New Box Collar Rule Interpretation (USTFCCCA)
I agree the concept and many parts are good - a step in the right direction --- I will also check the opening size to see where it falls acoording to the rule Ours measured about 21.5", maybe 22" and over a course of two collegiate and four high school level meets since December 7th we sa...

Re: opinions on box collars so far?
I was able to put my measuring device on the edge of the box by compressing the collar a little. did not have to side the device between the front pad with the top pad / tongue rolled back. Don't know if I could have. I know the part of the collar that goes under the pads is pretty large. I'll chec...

Re: opinions on box collars so far?
Dan, how did you accomplish your height measurements? For that matter how have OTHERS been performing height measurments. My PV team of officials found it to be impossible with our current devices.. We tried using a Gill Laser stick (as well as a home made metal stick), and also with a standard UCS ...

Re: 5-alive. should it be eliminated?
After reading every post (again), it seems clear to me that deleting the concept of 5-alive would be detrimental to the vertical jumps. I'll do everything I can do as an official to make sure the rules makers leave this alone except for one thing.. Make the concept of 5-alive (especially how to end ...

Re: Pole Taping Rules
The USATF rules appear to be less specific regarding the number of layers as long as they are uniform. Those are the rules that typically govern the masters events. Actually, USATF is pretty specific because there is no limit on the number of layers you can use. Just keep the binding uniform from t...

Re: Rule Question: Vaulter loses for coming in early?
The answer to this dilemma is simply this.. a mistake was made by the people conducting the event. They were not NY State certified officials and this was not a meet unique rule, they were simply volunteers running the event. I didn't ask, but there may have only been a couple of NY state officials ...
