Re: Pole Vault Competitions Moved Indoors?

Yes, the Big East men's comp. was moved indoors. They started it outdoors in light rain, then when it got worse they delayed it for half an hour. After this delay it didn't get any better so they had a meeting with the coaches and decided to continue the comp. indoor. I had to clear my opening heigh...

Re: 15-foot pole block??

What you need to think about is; are you trying to jump on 15's because you need to, or you want to? I've seen 15'3'' cleared on a 14' pole. It was my highschool teammate, and he took 2nd at states with that jump. Now when I started jumping on 15's, it was because I needed to, I had to move up to 15...

Re: What's the overall best school to vault at?

Ultimately I think that the best school for someone to vault at is one that they individual likes and responds well to the coaching style. If you don't completely trust your coach, or think you know better than him/her, you are going to have a hard time vaulting well.

Re: how do you count steps

I'm kind of surprised how many people on this thread don't count their steps, or wish they didn't. I was always taught to count my steps, counting every left. I find that it helps me keep the rythm and acceleration of my run consistant. Plus it also helps me keep my pole carry free. I know where I a...

From what I can see is that you need to work on your turnover speed, to counteract the striding. Ladders, stairs, etc., are good to get used to taking shorter strides faster.

I love how they talk about no competition for Sean, but they fail to mention that at the AAA WPIAL championships there were 2 other vaulters besides Gil that also cleared 15'3''. I do agree that he didn't get enough competition in those summer meets though.
