I think in the 90s Tennessee had LoJo, Adam Smith, and Justin Daler all over 5.50m ?

Kansas was loaded back in the 80s if i'm not mistaken.

I usually don't emphasize the "drop" aspect of the plant motion as I do "getting your hands up". Too often with beginners (and some of my intermediate vaulters) they attempt to "steer" (my term) the pole tip into the box. In most cases, this causes a late plant/bad take...
