A Pole Vaulter's Dream

...the holy grail of Pole Vault documentaries imho. I used to have it, but wore out the DVD from watching it so much and the kids getting hold of the DVD collection. Does anyone know of a way to get a new copy? I have done all of the simple solutions (eBay, Amazon, etc.)...would be psyched if anyone...

Re: Strength Metrics

For what it's worth, I heard once (and I can't remember from where but remember it being rather authoritative) that someone who can snatch his own body weight has enough strength for a 6m jump. I'd say your athlete is doing great in this department. Vertical, speed, and coordination/technical skill...

Re: Re:

If the weight comes on fast for you, consider switching to a Strength/Power plan earlier. I think Pole Vaulters are best a little on the skinny side so I don't think you should go above about 155. Agreed. Don't bulk up. At 5'9", 140 is enough, 155 is pushing it. He is only one guy, I get it an...

Re: Crossfit? Really? What is wrong with our elite athletes.

I think the Crossfit Games pretty much proved my point at the last competition. They added standing long jump. The winner was under 10 feet. They have thousands of people try and qualify for these games and have hundreds at the finals, and they could not get one guy to do a standing long jump over ...

Re: How high did the elite men jump in high school?

I THINK (memory could def be failing me on this one) that Tim Mack jumped 13'6" in HS... hit some HUGE numbers in college though.. He talks about it in his book about his 2004 season--which is a great read if you have not read it before. http://www.amazon.com/Above-Beyond-Vault-Quest-Olympic/dp...

Re: Nutrition and what to eat before a meet?

Cut out pop and replace it with water. This is a very easy thing to do. Diet pop is not much better for you....new studies are coming out that drinking diet pop causes increased calorie consumpstion later in the day. Stop eating out. Lots of hidden calories in restraunt foods. (not just the fast fo...

Re: Nutrition and what to eat before a meet?

While I am not much of a dietitian in any sense, I can tell you a few things that have been working for me lately. (as a rule of thumb) always shop on the perimeter of the grocery store. That is where all the perishable food items are, and if the food doesn't go bad, there are probably chemicals tha...

Re: Offseason training focus

Technique at this stage in the game. You cannot do enough pole runs, plant drills etc. The high bar and the pole runs will be enough for resistance training. MAYBE lifting a little legs, full body type stuff if you have a strength coach, but technique cannot be stressed enough.

Coaching in Columbus, OH

Is anyone out there looking for coaching help in Columbus, OH? New to the area, would like to get into coaching--I live in Hilliard, but I work in Gahanna area, so I am not too concerned about the location of the school.

Feel free to PM me if you know of anything--thanks.

Re: Gym workouts for when i don't practice! NUtrition?

You don't need to count calories. Eat food from home, not fast food. Don't drink soda. Don't eat junk food. Eat lots of fruits and vegetables and make sure you're eating protein. well said. I don't claim to be a nutritionist, and anyone on here who knows me personally will tell you I am addicted to...

Field testing and monitoring training

I am interested in hearing from some of the coaches out there what kind of field testing you do to monitor your athlete's fitness levels? IMO, I think that the field tests should involve "non-traditional" movements that mirror the macrocycle that you are currently in. What I mean by "...
