Re: What should future coaches take in college?

Getting back to the original quote as to what future coaches (if that is indeed what they intend to pursue as a career) should take in college to make themselves more able and well rounded. I can't tell you what to take, I'm no Petrov, but I can tell you what I took that worked really well for me. P...

Re: Signs you are doing a good job as a coach

I guess this is as good a thread as any to say that I missed the forum a lot. I used to be on here quite a bit while I was actively coaching but after leaving for military service I've had to take a hiatus from the vault and from coaching. Signs you are (in my case was ) doing a good job as a coach:...

At our regional and state meets they not only zero the standards for all to see, they measure at opening height and each consecutive height. For my dual meets I zero the standards with the other coach(es) and measure withthem at opening height and any record attempts.

Just my two cents.

I forgot to say what I thought, haha, I say top down it should all be the same. The only rules forbidding things should be for safety reasons. If you want to triple tape a pole, I say go for it. You want to cap a pole, you should be allowed, 3 inches up doesn't make a pole unsafe. If standards are s...

High School Rules

I'm transporting this from the thread about the Illinois state meet thread as we all started talking about rules that should or shouldn't be the same from the top to the bottom levels of the sport. It got to peg length and cross bar ends, etc. etc. Heres what I said: But why then are high jumpers fo...

One thing to remember is the meet is over - the order of champions stands - Winder won the meet fair and square and Mitch came in second. The thing Illinois officials need to do is to learn from this and go forward and see that this doesn't happen in the future. Time to cancle this topic and congra...

As a coach I can honestly say that I believe there should be a great deal of uniformity from the top down. I have no problem with shortening the pegs and having the same cross bar ends. If you don't touch the cross bar at all, which I thought was the point of the vault, the pegs could be a mm longer...

what heights are you jumping, that is of vital information. If you are not vaulting above your hand grip and your standards aren't all the way back then you don't need another pole, if they are all the way back then go with the heavier pole. If you are vaulting above your hand grip and you need more...

I understand that the swing is a natural reaction to the take off but if the take off leg is not exactly perpendicular to the ground the moment after take off then for the fraction of a second that the swing goes from its take off state to perpendicular gravity has to assist it, even though it may b...
