Re: Sophomore Outdoor Season Video Journal

The end of a long year... Just finished my outdoor conference meet. Resulted in a 13'6" first attempt, and great looks at 14'. Pretty bummed to finish a season this way especially with how confident I was feeling during practices. I'm a big fan of Shawn Francis, and if there's anything I can le...

Re: Sophomore Outdoor Season Video Journal

4/23/14 Last Vault Practice So today was my last vaulting practice of the year. I had good jumps on the 14' 165 (16.8) UCS Spirit gripping at 13'7" so I decided to move up to a 13'7" 180 (16.2) UCS Spirit capping it. Here's a link to the video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6FyQEiYzztU&a...

Re: Sophomore Outdoor Season Video Journal

4.18.14 Sewanee Invite So lots of good things and bad things today.. I had some of the best jumps that I think I have ever had in my life (especially for my second warmup jump at 15 feet, and my first two attempts at 4.25m). Since this was the last meet before my conference meet in one week, I reall...

Re: Pole Progression & Flex #'s

Sorry it took so long to get back to you..............as it is track season, I have been quite busy with meets. Anyway, hope I can be of help. Ok, based on the info you provided, I believe the 15' - 170 Spirit pole will be ok. Despite the pole being "older" really has nothing to do with a...

Re: Pole Progression & Flex #'s

First consideration is how high are you currently vaulting? And, where are you currently holding the 14' - 160 Spirit? And, how many steps (total) is your approach. Only based on the limited info you gave, the 15' - 170 might be a possibility holding down a few inches. But, need the other info to c...

Pole Progression & Flex #'s

So when I thought of what it meant to "move up a pole," I had always thought that it just meant either move up in weight rating or move up in length of the pole. But recently, I needed to move up from my 14' 165 UCS Spirit (16.8 flex) pole to my 14'6" 160 & 165 Pacer FX (flex for ...

April 7, 2014 Practice Felt really great today during practice. Approach: 8 lefts from 104' (first jump), 104'2" (second jump), 104'5" (last two jumps)- However, I was consistently a foot under? Grip: First two jumps were gripping at 13'3" the last two jumps were gripping at 13'5"...

Re: Sophomore Outdoor Season Video Journal

4.6.14 Got back from a meet at High Point University. Finally broke the 4 meter mark again, and ended up clearing just 1 cm underneath my personal best at 4.17m! There was a good tail wind, and it was my first time on a raised runway. Opened in at 3.77 (cleared 2nd attempt, couldn't get video), clea...

Re: Sophomore Outdoor Season Video Journal

March 29, 2014 We had our last home meet of the year. The winds were pretty fickle, going from a head wind, cross wind, and a tail wind between jumps. For some reason I was consistently a foot under each jump even though I was moving my step back each jump. All my standards were at 65. With the same...

Re: Sophomore Outdoor Season Video Journal

March 27, 2014 2 days out from the meet this weekend.. Was planning on jumping some bars from my 8 left approach, but the winds were way too strong so I was able to start out practice doing some 3 left drills straight poling and finished off practice moving back to 5 lefts. Here are 3 jumps from the...

Re: Sophomore Outdoor Season Video Journal

CoachEric,

Yes, usually we use mid marks during practice and meets, but I think because our coaches had to run this meet and lack of people, we were unable to check the mids for this one

Re: Sophomore Outdoor Season Video Journal

4/22/14 Today was our first home meet. Got a lot of sleep, and warm ups felt great. However, I NH'ed for the first time ever. I decided to open in at 4.00meters, which I guess was a little ambitious considering that my indoor PR was 3.95m but this last week in practice, I have been clearing 4.05-4.1...
