Recovery from Knee Surgery

So I dislocated my knee almost 9 months ago at a meet, which resulted in a torn ACL and some medial meniscus damage. I'm 7 months out of surgery and I'm making good progress, but not as fast as I wished. I'm still not ready to jump yet because the explosion in my repaired knee is still not back yet....

Re: Any thoughts for improvement?

Thanks for the comment and inspiration grandevaulter. I will take into consideration all those drills you've mentioned.
Hopefully one day I'll be able to post a 17' ft jump on here lol.

Re: Any thoughts for improvement?

Thanks, barto. Can you specify what exactly I need to work on by performing slide box?
I don't do them so I'm not sure how the benefits of this drill translates over to an actual jump.

Re: Body Type vs Technique

I didn't even think about the mental imaging when I was coming up with this. That's a very good point. I have seen many great vaulters in my area, but now that I think about it, I do not have a solid mental image of what I want my vault to look like. I'm gonna have to take out the camera and record ...

Body Type vs Technique

Pole vaulters come in all different shapes and sizes. The most noticeable trait many people take into consideration is an athletes height and weight, but I personally like to observe the length of their limbs relative to the length of their torso. Do they have a short torso with long limbs or a long...

Re: Any thoughts for improvement?

Thank you Coach Eric. I do use DJ's mid chart and I'm consistently 1-2ft out from my mid.
After I get my surgery and recover back my strength, I will try to adjust my run accordingly.
Ill be sure to look into athletic development and injury prevention as well.

Re: Any thoughts for improvement?

I just finished my sophomore year of college.I jumped 4.45m last year and 4.52m this season. I really under performed this year due to an injury early in the season (heel bruise on my jumping leg). I also tore my ACL at my last meet, which took me out for good. So I wanted to go back to the drawing ...

Re: Andy Kim's Senior Season Log

I would also grip down if I were you. Once you start having smoother jumps and landing deeper in the pit, then I would go back up a pole or up a grip.

Re: Last Practice of the Season

Andy_C ... Thanks for taking the time to post those images from my video and explaining all that to me. I have trouble chopping the last step on alot of my jumps and as a result my last step is always about a foot under (sometimes more). Ill try to develop a free-takeoff during summer camp and hopef...

Re: Last Practice of the Season

Thanks for the advise.
I didnt even notice my pole wasnt vertical in any of my jumps.
Im not too sure if this is correct, but do you think if my elbows bent in earlier, it will result in less pull with the bottom arm?
Sorry for asking so much.
