Re: Power to the swing

I thoroughly enjoy the fact that this thread immediately turned into discussion on my run. It was like a little wake up call that my mind was on the wrong things in classic pvp style...so thank you! I started doing 20/20s and hurdle runs (10 ft stride pattern) today. I suppose I'll just do 10,...

Re: Power to the swing

Thanks 6P, that's what I was curious about. And to deca and vcpvcoach, I have been working on that run... Its probably the most ingrained habit I have, and its been a thorn in my side since day 1.

Power to the swing

On several occasions I've read that the petrov model utilizes a straight leg swing instead of shooting out because it keeps the continuous chain going AND it adds energy into the system. I'm curious as to how much energy can be gained from the swing. For example, if I was to do no training for the n...

Re: Drills for form and habits

A little update for anyone that cares/has a similar question to mine. After working through some of these problems I made 14' with a 14' 175. (I weigh 160). It literally starts with the run. After looking at DJs chart and seeing a 10' 8" take off was necessary I did some drills to speed up into...

I teared up a little when I read that. Doesn't help that I'm a senior :crying:

Still keeping my hand near my left pocket but I feel like I'm staying closer to the bar.

Re: Drills for form and habits

Steps are loud is a good thing! I assumed that the steps were loud because of striding and running flat. Is the noise good because I'm clawing? Also I notice that the vaulters on stabhochsprung kick their feet up to their hands and then do a bubka-esque maneuver along the pole. Does this happen nat...

Re: Drills for form and habits

From the guy who learned the really, really hard way: be patient, speak softly, and STAY HEALTHY. Thanks haha. I was out all last season with a pulled quad. I now stretch more than anyone else on my team. And I probably should speak softer :dazed: http://www.trackandfieldsports.com/ekmps/shop...

Re: Drills for form and habits

Just a little update. My run is now substantially better. I'm keeping my knee tight to my body which has helped with high knees, I've dorsi-flexed my feet which allows me to kick harder and faster, and I have a good aggressive first step. Before, I actually had my feet plantarflexed and had no idea ...

Re: Ugliest 13' clearance EVER.

Take a peek at the advice I gave "Colt" tonight. (Search for "colt"). A lot of it applies to you too. The funny thing is our vaults look entirely similar and we're going over similar heights. I guess this says something about how important form is :) edit: btw good advice Kirk. ...

Re: Drills for form and habits

Thanks Kirk. Even though that's ugly to think about, you are pretty much spot on. I generally do end up taking off under and because of that occasionally do get ripped because I don't get my plant high enough. All of my vaults are different though so I will get my plant up sometimes. This could be c...

Drills for form and habits

I've been seriously devoting myself to jumping 15' before the end of my senior year. I've been working out a lot and gained about 10 lbs of muscle. I figure that I've got the physical part mostly under control. However, I still need some serious work on my form. I'm 160 lbs, right handed 6' tall, an...
