Re: USATF releases criteria for meets to count for qualifying

USATF certified or recognized officials must officiate the meet/event.

A strict reading of this would mean that athletes could not qualify abroad?

Re: Periodization

Here is an interesting article. THE END OF “PERIODIZATION” IN THE TRAINING OF HIGH PERFORMANCE SPORT By Yuri Verhoshansky Russian sport science expert, Prof. Yuri Verhoshansky, questions the validity of Matveyev’s theory of periodization, considers it outdated and provides detailed criticism on why ...

Re: Periodization

So I assume that most pole vault coaches use the traditional "Matveyev" or classical model of periodization. Has anyone ever experimented with a more modern paradigm, perhaps the Verkhoshansky (sp?) block method or Bondarchucks complex method? I personally have done a lot with the Bondarch...

Re: Does the Russian model represent ideal technique?

Many recent posters on PVP and some accomplished coaches I spoke with this summer would strongly disagree that all three medalists were using (or trying to use) the Petrov Model. I am not sure we could get agreement on which 6m jumpers use the model and I am quite sure we would not get agreement th...

Re: Does the Russian model represent ideal technique?

You can not reduce the US problems with hammer throw to the fact they are not contested in high school, thats too simplistic. I still maintain that the hammer throw is a better analogy. There are other techniques in the hammer throw, but only one that is based on optimal biomechanics and physics, ju...

Re: Does the Russian model represent ideal technique?

So just to stir the pot a bit... which is the ONE correct technique that uses "physics" in the long jump? The hitch used by most elite men or the hang still used heavily by elite women? In the shot is it the glide or the spin? In the high jump is it the flop or the roll or the straddle or...

Canada provides anywhere from $900-$1500 dollars a month for there elite athletes. Where the USA provides almost nothing. It would be an easy choice for me.

Re: Gill international Standards

That's good that they roll well. So the first thing that comes to my (engineering) mind is binding. The next thing to do is try sliding the standard by pushing on the truck assembly (not on the main upright). When you do this, note if the truck twists, or is already twisted relative to the base tha...

Re: Gill international Standards

So I was able to measure the track this weekend and it checked out OK, no bend. I brought a Level and leveled the base out and it seemed to help a little bit. However, its still more difficult to move then it should be. Back to the drawing board.

Re: Gill international Standards

Ok here are some Pictures. I have noticed that the axel in the middle does not touch, not sure if thats normal or not. If the whole thing is not level could that cause binding? i.e. maybe i need to take a level and adjust the feet. I will check for twist and take some measurements tomorrow and see i...
