Re: Goals?

My pr last year as a freshman was 11 feet, and I could occasionally clear the bungee at 12. I was only holding at 11, but I've been working on my speed a lot and quit cross country. I was only going 9 at the end of the school year and I got 11 at camp this summer. Obviously I wasn't expecting to be...

Re: Goals?

You can not measure the success of cross country training on pole vault by the achievements of a 14'2 pole vaulter. No one here has said you can not be a good pole vaulter and run cross country, just that you would be a better one if you did other training instead. I have seen a guy win the 2 mile i...

Re: Pole Vault Trainers?

Get a good neutral shoe. When not pole vaulting you should be practicing good sprint mechanics with striking the ground with the ball of your foot and not running hill to toe or too high up on your toes. Because of this it is good to have something that is relatively neutral so your foot can hit the...

Re: Jamaican Sprinter Blake tests positive for drugs

But don't over the counter medicines still require a doctors note. What if they changed the test protocols so the athlete could have an allowable amount in there body. Figure out what is x amount for a flu/cold or whatever they need it for backed up with a doctors note. As opposed to someone who ju...

Re: Jamaican Sprinter Blake tests positive for drugs

I think some of these things are just stupid. If it can be found in an over the counter medicine it should not be more than a slap on the wrist at certain levels. Just like LSU loosing their NCAA Championship because of a substance in nasal spray!

Approach Run Question (DJ?)

DJ, I have seen your midmark chart and I have seen your sprint acceleration charts on your website. My question is can you make something for me? Let say I am running 5 lefts with a 14'11 grip. What should my acceleration pattern be with pole in hand? How big should the first step be? I feel like al...

Re: Goals?

Drop the cross country and use the time you save to do the drills necessary if you are to improve your run and plant. My pr last year as a freshman was 11 feet, and I could occasionally clear the bungee at 12. I was only holding at 11, but I've been working on my speed a lot and quit cross co...

Re: Shade Weygandt turns pro

She does go to Texas Tech which just recently released their vault coach this summer. And since we are hearing about this so late I am going to guess she just recently decided this. So, since it is November already and people sign scholarship papers anywhere from May-August for the following year, t...

Re: 16' PR any advice welcome

To try and offer some simple advice... Your run looks good at the start but you could do a little better job quickening your step and having a big up impulse into the jump. You appear to just be running into the takeoff so everything is flat. This is also apparent in your slightly late plant in whic...

Re: Pole Vault Survey

Kind of a loaded survey you got there. You are essentially asking what the most dangerous part of the vault is at the beginning, and then the rest of the questions are just designed to sway your survey towards people saying that the hard box and cross bar are dangerous. When giving an 'other' choice...

Re: Optimal body shape for vaulting.

Another note, am I shooting for high reps when I lift? PV2020 stated something about doing heavy reps. I'd imagine I wouldn't want to bulk up too much and low reps does this correct? The last two days my weight lifting has consisted of 12 reps per set. Should I change this? Thanks everyone I apprec...

Re: Cold Weather effects on poles

Hello Everyone, Since I'm fairly new at this, I was wondering what the effects of cold weather have on poles? I live in Michigan and will travel to practices this winter. If I have an hour drive to practice and its 20 degrees outside, I would think the pole would be frozen by the time I reach my de...
