Vaulting Intervention?

My family has never been keen on my pole vaulting career. For the longest time, my mom would avoid high school meets for the fear of watching me kill myself. Now I'm 23, still vaulting, and they think i'm insane for it. My grandpa recently told me, and I quote: "Boy, you're gettin' too old to b...

Re: You know you're a true pole vaulter when...

If you hang a crossbar above your bed so it is the first thing you see when you wake up and the last thing you see before you go to sleep. If you have ever had that dream. (True pole vaulters know what I mean.) You are at the meet but can't find your poles. You have your poles but can't get to the ...

Re: Broken foot...

I can appreciate your dislike for swimming ... I'm not very keen on swimming either ... but if you like PV, then suck it up! Honestly, swimming with a board solves your buoyancy problems ... it keeps your head above water ... and allows you to work the legs only. You don't need to swim for upper ar...

Re: 14'9 Attempt (kinda)

Being under attributed to this, but it looks like you're leaned back at takeoff... So there's no drive at all... it's like you got whipped off the ground. I watched some of your older videos too, and it looks like the same thing. If you were one of my high school vaulters, I'd have you doing sliding...

Re: Reebok Boston Indoor Games Women - Johnson 4.55

Did you see Chelsea's bail at the next height up, second attempt? SUPER scary... fully inverted, then comes back down but keeps holding the pole... rebends the thing like CRAZY and rides it into the pit... then the tip slips out the back of the box and the pole slapped her pretty good in the elbow.

Lagat

I can't help but absolutely admire this guy. On top of setting records constantly and dominating distance races, he seems extremely humble and is a graceful winner.

Anyone see the Millrose mile? Or the mile or 5k at the Reebok Indoor Championships?

Re: Broken foot...

No swimming? Kirk Nah, not yet... I'm not being much of a champion about it. I have this horrible, awful aversion to swimming. That's a sissy excuse, I know, but there's not much more I hate in this world worse than swimming (roller-skating and ice-skating come close though.) I'm one of ...

Re: Broken foot...

See, thats what i was thinking... and also why I didn't go to the doc right away. Everyone was telling me "oh, no way it's broken... you couldn't even walk, you'd be in tears right now, that foot would be the size of a basketball right now." So i just took their word for it. Then it wasn't...

Re: Broken foot...

Yikes ... but I do like your tag line! :yes:Kirk Why thankya. Speaking of sucking it up, I walked around on that foot for two days before finally admitting to myself it was probably broken, and i should probably go to a doctor. Anywho, I don't have a cast, just the boot- so i can take that th...
