Re: Approach run misconception.
I actually wrote Confuse-us.. trying to be clever.. what I was alluding to in the 5 meter 10 meter diving comparison was in reference to all the short run vaulting going on, BUTT we continue to think we can "short run" vault in practice and use a "real" run in competition. There...

Re: Isi signs up for Diamond League
I would love to see Jenn jump in some more meets, and see what she can do in a big meet with better weather. I would love to see Isi get some fire back in her belly. She looked great in prelims, I'm not sure why she is so out of it now. Stick a fork in her. She is done. It is no fun when the compet...

Re: Steve Hooker
First I would have to say that I certainly agree with the sentiment that there are a lot of assumptions being made here. I know people here love to analyse things and that's fine, but every now and then I think we all have to acknowledge our limits as outsiders who don't have full insight into what ...

Re: Summer Training
Are you going to become a shot-putter OR a swimmer?? Sounds more like bodybuilding with the type of lifting he's doing! PV2020, The type of physical training you are doing is markedly out of sync with pole vault. In whatever type of training you do always think about what you're trying to achieve. ...

Re: how far do you feel comfortable running from...
Trey, What do you do for long jump? I looked at the first footage that came up on youtube (your 7.83 at Berlin in '09), and you looked pretty balanced there... Looked like a lot more than 6! Why do you think you have trouble translating that run to the vault? His post here was from 2003... Just not...

Re: New National Freshmen Record: Kaitlyn Merrit (CA) 13'3"
Finally got a writeup, just cropped out the pole vault related part: WALNUT – Continuing to show the poise and confidence of a veteran, Santa Margarita freshman pole vaulter Kaitlyn Merritt used her biggest stage of the season to vault higher than any freshman in national high school federation hist...

Re: Hooker is back! 5.72 in Perth
It is worth noting that this is the only indoor facility in OZ - and only there because a sponsor was prepared to put the money up. Ironically Perth is the the only place in the country that does not really need an indoor facility!!! Unfortunately this is very true... Help has a funny way of not go...

Thought I'd share this one as well. Red Bull's promotion of Steve is nothing but incredible.

Re: Hooker is back! 5.72 in Perth
Here's a video of the jump. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HKPCeOYN4sc Yeah, I think the weather in Perth is pretty awesome. Sydney has pretty good weather too, it's basically a semi-tropical San Francisco if you want comparisons (not just weather either). Melbourne is like the Bermuda Triangle of m...

Re: Hooker is back! 5.72 in Perth
They actually have multiple runways in the facility. Here's a more detailed video about the place. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9o2iojC7gSw I'm quite sure the competition would be on the blue runway which has no incline/slope. Also from the video he says that the blue runway is made out of a softe...
