Re: Olympics!! How to watch/follow in the USA

Yes! I agree with you on all your points made, PV-ATL! I only learned yesterday that he spent some time training in Italy - with Petrov. And Da Silva was one of the few vaulters that was *not* stalling out last night. To be honest, I didn't notice that he was particularly fast - but he sure was fast...

Re: Olympics!! How to watch/follow in the USA

Did you all notice how early Da Silva released his pole? Amazing!

What other vaulter did that remind you of?

I've never seen such POWER generated in the bottom half of the vault since ... well, you know.

Re: Olympics!! How to watch/follow in the USA

There seemed to be a lot of stallouts over the bar. Don't know if that was wind or just rushing jumps because of the competition pressures. It's hard to criticize the best in the world, but I noticed that too. My guess is that the vaulters that didn't have enough forwards momentum (those that stall...

Re: Can't stop going to the left

So my takeoff position is causing my trail leg to go out at an angle to the right, which is causing me to land left, correct? And if this is correct then how do I fix this? That's my theory (yet to be proven). You haven't yet told me if your foot is hitting the center of the runway or not. The othe...

Seriously, give us the link to the vaulter's vid. We will be our own judge of what she's actually doing.

Re: Rowing?

I'd have to see the vid to understand exactly what you mean. Perhaps you can name the vaulter and point us to a link of her practice footage? Why would you want us to answer your question blind-folded? But if you're just looking for some general info about rowing, you can search for "...

Re: Do longer poles have better "flexibility"?

I see what you're saying now. I will debunk your theory ... I see that there's more pole breaks with the shorter poles than the longer poles. I say this about the shorter pole because it seems to require not nearly as much bend as a longer pole. This is what I infer from observing high schoolers and...

Re: Can't stop going to the left

GasPasser, thanks for taking a stab at it. While your analysis of Archer's swing and extension is *interesting*, it's not why he's drifting left. There's a frame where his trail leg foot is aligned with the white line, to the right of the runway. So his foot has traveled from (presumably) the middle...

Re: Can't stop going to the left

Looking again at your vid, I agree that your head is to the left of the pole on takeoff. And then your trail leg angles to the right (from your perspective, as the vaulter - not the vid viewer). I would say with confidence that this is what's causing you to drift left. But what's the *root* cause? W...

Re: US Olympic Trials - Men's PV - Kendricks 5.91; Simmons; Cunningham

Is Eaton's decathlon record an Olympic trials record or "championships record" as well (I mean all time)? Hmm ... LMGTFY ... the answer is here - at the bottom of the " Decathlon: Eaton Wins " link. :D http://lmgtfy.com/?q=Is+Eaton%27s+decathlon+record+an+Olympic+trials+record W...

Re: Do longer poles have better "flexibility"?

I don't really understand your question. You say you're observing Lavillenie's (longer) pole bend more than a high schooler's (shorter) pole (more than 90 degrees, roughly), but it's the shorter pole that you say: "it seems if it were to bend anymore we'd be seeing a pole break". Why do yo...

Re: US Olympic Trials - Men's PV - Kendricks 5.91; Simmons; Cunningham

How could an "Olympic Trials" record possibly be made in any non-Olympic year?
