My principal suggestion would be to get good heel support/protection. Nike and Reebok, I know, make spikes specifically designed for pole vault/triple jump (w/extra support & a good heel). I suspect - although I'm not certain what others think about this - that some distance spikes might be a go...

in response to xtremevaulter

Ok, here goes. I'll try to explain myself in greater detail. Inj my earlier comment, I tried to emphasize that a helmet does not give a FALSE sense of security. It gives a sense of security, yes, but not a false one. But my point is that it should only give a measured (or tempered) sense of security...

If we really think about it, a helmet shouldn't give us a "false" sense of security. Have you ever read one of the warning labels on a bike, skateboard, ski, lacrosse, or football helmet? I've been doing some helmet safety research. There are a number of articles about bicycle helmets, hockey helmet...

When I was in college, the Carolina Godiva Track Club had the Latin motto: vincit qui se vincit (he conquers who conquers himself) or if you are a woman (she conquers who conquers herself). I've always related to that one, especially given that in this sport we are always trying to PR as much as (or...

Hey Wacky, Thanks for your encouragement. I call myself a "masters vaulter" but that may be misleading. The last time that I actually vaulted in a meet was when I was a senior in high school (1975). Then at the end of May this year I woke up one morning and realized that I had had a dream about pole...

So, who knows the REAL, ACTUAL, CURRENT status of pv helmet research? Are there actually any engineers or research institutes or helmet manufacturers actively working on a pv helmet-specific design? If so, what's on the drawing board? I've read that some states are requiring helemts? What does that ...

History of Pole Vault World Records?

Does anyone know whether there is a definitive "history" of the pole vault world record? I assume (a** of you and me - I know:)) that it exists somewhere. What I'm looking for is a list of record heights, record-holders, dates, and locations of the world record in chronological (or reverse chronolog...

So, how can an average guy or gal get ahold of the flex chart? Does Gill provide it to the public? Can someone post it here? For example, if I want to get the softest 13.5-175 possible, what flex number do I ask for? If I want to get the stiffest 13.5-170 what flex number do I ask for? I hope this d...

Hey Chris, I'm very interested in getting one of your old blue skypoles. I can remember jumping on one of the old brown ones in the early 70's. I honestly don't know what the "collector value" is for these. How about $10 and I pay the shipping? Do you have any old black Cata-Poles or anything older?...
