Re: Speed gates

I built one for what would cost about $500 today. It uses industrial photocells, a timer clock and a hand built switching circuit to turn the clock on and off on command from the photocells. its harwired not wireless like the units that Gill and MF sell. The 4 photo cells cost about $80 each , the t...

Re: Help with Jack

Tim, You are touching on a subject I recently discussed with some college coaches- Do you shortcut the development process to get more immediate results? Few of us have the training time with an athlete that Petrov and Bubka had in the teen years. I have not trained a athlete as apparently talented ...

Re: Dropping a box in a track

I once removed 2 boxes and reinstalled them in different positions. It cost me(the school) about $600. I needed to rent a concrete saw, electric jack hammer, portable cement mixer and a bunch of premixed concrete. It was hard work. The two tricky things were- cutting thru the rubberized surface clea...

Re: Roll out runway

I looked up the rollout at MF athletics-- they call it "instant runway"- 12mm thick by 36 in wide for $6.90 /running foot-. We have some 12mm x 42in x 100 ft. at our school and when we roll it up for storage we have to get a forklift to move it. I put a long pipe thru the roll and got 4 st...

Re: Roll out runway

Roll out runway is available at MF Athletics -see mfathletics.com- 100 feet is going to cost you $800 to $1000 .
Try the Sand and Gravel processors(quarry) they use lots of rubber belt conveyors.

Since I sometimes officiate, I am curious how others handle the problem of being close enough to the pit to determine if the plane is broken on a bail and being far enough up the runway to see the box to make sure the pole is not planted beyond the plane. I'm usually about 40 feet from the box so I ...

A pole is in simple terms a tube described by an inside diameter, wall thickness and length. For durability reasons, you want to maintain a reasonable wall thickness or the pole is susceptible to accidental damage. So the way you change the pole stiffness is mostly by diameter changes. So if you had...

I prefer the folded and welded stainless steel- its corrosion resistant and the surface finish is better than the cast aluminum which is easier on pole tips

As for putting the box in the garage floor, I would rent a concrete saw and cut the floor in a rectangle that is 6 inches wider and longer per side than the box. You can use mortar mix to fill in around the box instead of concrete mix because the mortar is easier to tear out later if needed. As for ...

I built a set about 8 years ago. They ended up costing me $200 but they were a custom fit for my standard bases which is nicer than a uinversal set of pads that shift around and you have reconfim the zero mark every time you move the standands. I built a wooden base from 1x's and plywood that snugly...
