OK, think about it like this. I like to keep it simple. If you can hang from a high bar/rope/rings and support your own body weight, you obviously have some tendon strength as well as muscle strength. But....You have to think about the amount of force you put on those tendons, ligaments and muscles ...

You don't need much upper body strength to experience a taste of pole vaulting, but you DO need as much upper body strength as possible to jump high and be competitive. Barto is right about the core, which by the way, is UPPER body. Your weight training should be determined by the time of year it is...

I think it would be in the best interest of everyone (and there are several) involved to clarify the definite records, boys and girls, for each class all the way to the quarter inch and to also give timelines that these marks have to be achieved. We are all a part of an obviously explosive, objectiv...

I built a runway this past summer with the help of some of my vaulters. 17 sections (135 feet long when assembled), each section built from 2 sheets of 3/4" plywood. ABSOLUTELY NO nails, just 2 1/2" decking screws. It was time consuming because we had to rip 17 sheets on a table saw, each was 7 7/8"...

We're working on getting some digital video so we can post it on our website. Spencer's running from 82 feet. That's 14 strides (7 lefts) for him. We toyed with a longer run, but the only significant result we got was a larger margin of error in step consistancy. Shorter run = less energy per vault ...

This happened at about 5:30 this afternoon at the Magnet Cove Panther Relays just outside of Hot Springs, Arkansas. There were about 10 teams there. We had the week off getting rested for our conference meets, but wanted to take some vaulters to this meet since it was centrally located and because t...
