Re: pushing back out during the swing?

Eric, First of all, thank you for the well reasoned and respectful disagreement with my post. I greatly appreciate healthy debate and thoughtful replies. I don't disagree with what you said re: the gymnast and the lowering of the COM. However, I would like to add a few points of my own as it relates...

Re: pushing back out during the swing?

PVstudent - Fantastic post! A few things. First, PVdaddy, I don't know why you are trying to "debunk" the bottom arm pull, or why you think that there is some "jig" which was previously down, but is now inexplicably up, but good for you. Bottom arm action is a highly contentious ...

Re: pushing back out during the swing?

Altius, Care to add something constructive to the discussion? Oh that's right you and Agapit are pull fans during the downswing, just like the old timer never did! This occurred to you during your Vodka epiphany during the famous ski trip! I call it the biggest cockamanie bull that ever was mention...

Re: Lavillenie to attempt PV "decathlon best"

I think he's got it. Base on his PR's posted on his webpage, and even calculating a slight decrease (i.e.11.20 in the 100m) I still think he can hit 7300 with a 5.80m vault.

Identifying weaknesses through testing

Hey guys. As the start of the college season approaches I wanted to inquire about testing for identifying athlete weaknesses. I'm looking for that next level down of information, if it exists. Speed traps, long jump, 1RM tests, and vertical leap can help identify which biomotor abilities are weakest...

Re: Fitting vaulting into adult life

Hey Jake, First, best of luck to you. Vaulting after college can be a very rewarding, but also very difficult, experience. I have had some personal success vaulting after college, at least enough to keep me coming back for another year, haha. I was a decent college vaulter (4.65m) but after I gradua...

Re: The Importance of Simplicity in Science

Bringing the discussion back to the pole vault and your observations, you must also realize that you are not observing natural phenomena, but human action. There is no indication that any of the vaulters you have observed have attempted to execute a free takeoff or any other p/b technical element, t...

Re: The Importance of Simplicity in Science

Recently several responders criticized the writer's scientifically based arguments The responder has not criticized your arguments. The respondent's intent was only to educate you and help you realize that they are in fact not scientifically based. While it is true that empirical evidence has been ...

Re: ideal technique in the fiberglass vault

Although I'm not a professional scientist, I have read a great deal about the subject ( I'm an autodidact ), which you apparently have not. I have a scientific background. I have worked in labs, conducted experiments, reviewed papers, and observed professional scientists. I have an Ivy League educa...

Say what you want about vault technique, just stop pretending you understand science. You know nothing John Snow!

Re: ideal technique in the fiberglass vault

David, This will be my last reply here, as I think that the conversation is starting to move in a different direction, and I don't want to detract from that. I would like you to respond to me, forgetting that I am a a p/b advocate (in fact I am an advocate of Roman's model 100%), and just as a revie...

Re: ideal technique in the fiberglass vault

David, No one that I am aware of is arguing that you can't be successful with an inside takeoff, tuck, etc. I am not even going to argue that a free takeoff is superior (or any other p/b element). However I will continue to state that your observations do not support your conclusion. That is my only ...
