Re: pushing back out during the swing?

This whole question about what the bottom arm should do after penetration has showed me two very enlightening things and that is after examining videos of elite vaulters, no two vaulters do it exactly alike and many times the same vaulter does not perform it the same way on each vault! Either this ...

Re: pushing back out during the swing?

Sergey said that "the best vaulters are the educated vaulters"! He said that his mind works like a computer or a movie camera were he can see the entire vault in his mind. At our last practice I told the Kids; "If you cannot see the entire vault, from the very first step to landing o...

Re: pushing back out during the swing?

So yes this forward pressure is not the main reason the pole is bending at all but, this forward pressure is working against the whip leg (more appropriately stated as working to assist the whip leg pressure and force and speed through the whole body coil.) and is moving and applying forward force ...

Re: pushing back out during the swing?

On this one point, it sounds like you're thinking of telling your vaulters to do something with their bottom arm. You know my advice on that, but I also suggest that you listen to ADTF's advice. In case you're not aware, he's the coach of Mark Hollis - ranked #3 in 2011 and #5 in 2012 in the USA. P...

Re: pushing back out during the swing?

I most definately believe, see, and feel the benefit "Forward" pressure from the bottom hand "Post Take-off". I am emphasizing post take-off, because, it is imperative that it is very clear that we are not describing a bottom hand block out during penetration or the methods that...

Re: pushing back out during the swing?

I also teach all of my athletes the same technique, and I would say we are right up there with any school as far as jumping over our grips. Here is my best girl attempting 14'9 - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w8FpkqfeOqk&list=UUQNqilL-G1rlvpDSlGgohqQ&index=13 And here is my best guy jumpin...

Re: pushing back out during the swing?

Huge bend = 100% straight bottom arm No bend = 100% bent bottom arm Every vaulter falls in between those two extremes. Because bottom arm straightens out doesn't mean they are applying force per say with bottom arm. The pole is just bending to max during the initiation of swing to flat back. On the ...

Re: What are coaches looking for from PVP?

Theory is easy... It is clean, it is in our mind so it makes perfect sense. Real is hard... It is concrete, it is right in front of us and causes many to loose hair trying to explain. Not many want to live in the real. Sadly theory on a forum is easier and makes more sense. You will only find athlet...

Re: Fourteen Year Gap in Modern PV Technique in the 1970s?

there is Soooo... much I have regretted about how I wrote what I did…. Starting with the "hang"… not that anybody read it at the time… but there were some "serious" down side that I ran across two years later for an very good USA coach that had changed.. bad change, and he didn'...

Re: Fourteen Year Gap in Modern PV Technique in the 1970s?

Great Minds search deeper Weak Minds follow leaders In the US and I'm sure around the world Fades come and go. Take an old principle and put a cool name on it and now everyone is into it such as cross fit. Circuit training has been around for decades yet its the most amazing new trend to some like i...

Re: "Short termism" in US vaulting

http://youtu.be/L0P3H4iO1DU jump at :39. Like to point out new pegs bar wouldn't have stayed. Is this considered a good takeoff position? If this was a jump by someone at US Nationals would it be compared to perfect Bubka form? There are too many athletes/coaches looking at a final project and match...

Re: Current USA "Pros" vs "College" Men

First off as mentioned do we even have any PROS right now with the exception of Brad, Jeremy and Mark. I think they are the only ones actually on a shoe contract with a base salary (not one you would think a professional athlete would have I'm sure) making more than poverty line off pole vaulting. R...
