Re: Post pole vaulting life
Depends what it is about pole vaulting that you are trying to retain with your new activity. The physical demand? Mental discipline and training? Focus/intensity? Thrill? IMO, this is the extreme end of the "thrill" spectrum: proximity wingsuit BASE jumping: http://www.visualnews.com/2010/...

Re: Reviewing film during competition
Under NFHS rules, it is okay for a coach (or anyone else) to view photos and videos to coach the athlete; the only restriction is that the athlete may not view them. Rule 4-5-8-g; see also the casebook (I have 2009 version, which I can't locate it right now, but the casebook situation specifically n...

Re: HS Rule Change for 2011 - 2 Min Warmup instead of 1 Run Thru
.. This came up at a meet and the official seemed very sure of herself. She told me that it was decided at some sort of meeting that they (officials) were to wait until outdoor. I decided to let it go since the meet was not in my home state. I suppose the state we were in (Virginia) has decided to ...

Re: 2011 Indoor HS Meets in the South
In the thread "2011 Indoor meets in the SE with HS Pole Vault" I've listed three LA meets that probably are closer to you Texarkokie folks than us "South East" people (although we be "South" too! :D ) I'll paste the info for those three below, but you might want to also...

Re: 2011 Indoor meets in the SE with HS Pole Vault
Bumping the thread, as it turns out that Clemson will host a meet in Jan (good find, PV-ATL). Info added in the original post at the top. Also (on Jan 1) added the 2nd McNeese State meet, and put in entry fees for each meet.
Note that they changed the date for the Clemson meet: now SAT Jan 22.

Re: 2011 Indoor meets in the SE with HS Pole Vault
Bumping to move this thread up, as I've updated the post at the top with lots of additional information and live links to the actual meet pages for a few more of these meets (and added the McNeese St meets).

Re: HS Rule Change for 2011 - 2 Min Warmup instead of 1 Run Thru
Off topic, but I didn't know this: "Two competitors (A&B) are left in the competition. A misses on all three trials at a height; B has missed his/her first two trials at the same height. Before taking a third trial, B requests the bar be raised to a height NOT in the established pro-gressio...

Re: USATF proposes to allow run throughs after one hour
I think its a good rule, for the obvious reasons of safety and for allowing athletes who enter late in the competition a fair warmup. These two events (HJ and PV) are unique in the sometimes extreme interval between the allowed warmup period and when some of the athletes make their first attempt. I'...

Re: Building a High bar
Here's how I did an outdoor one: go to home depot and get two 10ft 4x4s (pressure treated), a 5 ft length of 1" piping (threaded at ends), 2 threaded flanges to screw on end of pipe, 1-2 bags of premixed concrete. Borrow a post hole digger. I think this is the Flange I used: http://www.homedepo...
