Re: Let's talk about box collars!

I actually do not think the concept is all that bad, they just needed to leave the idea out there longer and leave the idea in beta before lobbying to make their current design a rule. Just a few minutes of trigonometry and basic knowledge of the imperfect world of pole vaulting tell you the taper n...

Re: Going Unattached

It would not be too difficult. One of pole vault powers posters did it a few years ago when he was in high school in Jersey. There are a lot of indoor meets in that area that take unattached athletes. However there is a difference. If you are 14+ guy or 11+ girl it is a lot easier to do than a 11'6 ...

We are making our own sport feared

Imagine you are a high school athletic director who has never seen anyone pole vault or a school board voting to decide if they wanted to vote to make pole vaulting allowed in their school district. You wanted to gain a little more information on the vent so you googled pole vault. What is the numbe...

Re: New coach..

I have been pole vaulting since high school. I am a sophomore in college jumping 15'1 and this is literally my coaches first season coaching pole vault. She's an amazing strength and speed coach, but when it comes to pole vault its hard to not question her sometimes. Few examples: 1: She always wan...

Re: Duplantis Videos

Dr. Peter McGinnis sent me a spread sheet a few years ago with speed trap times from major meets. There were two athletes who were consistently the fastest. Those two were Scott Huffman and Greg Duplantis. They were consistently right at 10.00 or close to it on several jumps, even more so than Bubka...

Re: Teaching swing without gymnastics equipment

There are high bars everywhere. A single pull up bar with room to swing is all you need to learn to pole vault. Fancy gymnastic equipment is great fun and all but the swing and inversion of the vault does not require being a level 10 gymnast. I know people that can vault quite well, swing fast, and ...

Re: Indoor National Qualifying tie breakers 2013

At least they got rid of automatic qualification marks. In 2009 they were only able to take 14 pole vaulters because they had a rule about the total amount of athletes allowed in the meet so in events where too many people got the auto mark they had to take less athletes in other events. But in real...

Re: Anyone Know Anything About This Spike?

It is a compression spike they came out for high jump. I think last year or relatively recently they came out because of the way the Nike High Jump spikes are made. The high jump spike's spike hole is set back farther in the shoe due to the thicker rubber bottom of the shoe so they need a longer spi...

Re: NCAA taking comments on proposed box collar rule

"The NFHS has not released any statements that I am aware of indicating if/when this particular collar will be required." Should have said that in my post but these sort of rules do tend to trickle down to the high school level. I do have an observation about the SafetyMax cover. In the n...

Re: Swing Technique

#2 Straight leg swing has been the ideal model in pole vaulting for 100+ years. Just like giants on the high bar, the straight leg generates more power thus faster swing resulting in greatest inversion. I will agree with this for the most part. However the straight leg swing only generates more ene...

Swing Technique

Below are links to two videos consisting of two different athletes doing the same drill. I am going to start the discussion first by asking which swing up do you like the best. And secondly, what would you change about the one you do not like as much. Vaulter 1: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HM80MD...

Re: How Long was Bubka's Approach Run?

Altius, Thanks for your interest! I am honored, as well I should! I am trying to explain why vaulters should run "underneath" and not reach for the box. I will try to use the best PV'ter of all time to illustrate this. For instance, here in GA, USA, it is normal to see a 10-6 girl jumping...
