Re: The TAP at the top of the swing
The above mentioned athletes or the soldier in the field while in hand to hand combat understand this all to well. To them the mastering of technique literally means the difference between living or dieing! Trust me, if you ever find yourself in a rear naked choke and someone is squeezing the life ...

Re: Run Mechanics and Training Techniques
My thoughts on the subject come mostly from the philosophies of Dan Pfaff. As a collegiate athlete, I was trained by Brian Hunter, who vaulted for Dan Pfaff at Texas. I often hear cues from coaches that the run should be "slow to fast." While it's almost an accurate description of what hap...

Run Mechanics and Training Techniques
This forum needs a fresh topic. I'm curious to know coaches' opinions on the following points, and I would like to share some of mine: 1. How should the vaulter accelerate out of the back? What is the cue? 2. What are the running cues as the vaulter approaches the box? 3. How should vaulters develop...

Re: The TAP at the top of the swing
...the vaulter has a tremendous abillity to add vertical energy while unbending from the Spine! I've tried to refrain from engaing in this discussion, but everyone has been trying to tell you the same thing, and no one seems to be getting through, so I'll give it a go. Ready? Here it is.. WE KNOW!!...

Re: Severe Mental Block
Often times a "mental block" is the result of a techncal issue that has gone unnoticed. Post a video of your run. There's a good chance that your pole carry or plant motion is pulling you off balance, and you're unable to leave the ground not because of a mental block, but because your bod...

Re: Lack of Bottom Arm at Takeoff
Create space with the arms before the tip strikes the box, and push the pole toward verticle with your bottom arm. Practice your plant drills off the runway, and this will improve.

Re: New Indoor PR- 15' 3"
Your step is under because you have gotten faster and you need to raise your grip. I will assume that you are using the mid mark chart, so your 14'4" grip puts your mid at 48' or close to it. If you're consistently hitting around 49'6" and your step is close to being on, your grip should p...

Re: Physics Based Critique of the Petrov Method
Some key things to be considered in this discussion: 1. Willrieffer, the article you supplied as the basis for the Petrov model appears to be an excerpt from BTB, or at least it's written by Alan. All due respect to Alan, because his work has done more to bring some of Petrov's concepts to the rest ...

Re: Sophomore Outdoor Season Video Journal
If you would fix your pole carry such that the pole tip stays above eye level until you initiate your plant, you would have cleared the bar on any one of those three vaults. Keep the left elbow below the wrist while you're running, supporting the pole from underneath. The instant the wrist turns ove...

Re: Help on the rockback
Focus on keeping your hands and elbows over your head while you swing. You are rowing your hands and forcing pressure down the length of the pole, which stops pole rotation and stops your swing. Keep the hands over the head all the way through the vault and swing all the way to the back of the pit!

Re: Sophomore Outdoor Season Video Journal
Your pole tip still falls too low too quickly. This is why you are taking off under. The pole tip should cross eye level as you initiate your plant.
Also you can raise your grip.
Also you can raise your grip.

Re: Stiff Poling to Bending
She is pulling. Both arms must stay overhead for the body to swing. Have her focus on pushing all the way to the back of the pit.
