Re: USC spirit pole question

I can't give you advice based on what you said about trying your friends pole. Please tell us about the poles you have been jumping on before, especially the pole you PR'd with. Please provide pole make, length, wt rating, flex # (if known), grip height, and number of lefts for each pole you have re...

Re: Jersey Jumps Beach Vault-Seaside Heights-June 30-31

I'm sure you meant Garden State Parkway, not Turnpike.

You should have swung in and checked out the action for an hour or two and watch from the boardwalk. Paul & Brenda Babits came all the way from IN to join the fun. They each won their masters competition.

Re: Flex on older, small pole

The Pacer III is an old pole. They were first made in the mid-'70's. I don't know exactly when they were discontinued or rebranded/renamed, but sometime in the 1980's. I believe the flex test used on them is probably unchanged - that is they flex test today's poles using the same methods and procedu...

Re: Do longer poles have better "flexibility"?

I'd also add that we see more poles break at the HS level because the poles are not as well cared for by the HS athletes as the elite poles are cared for by their vaulters. In addition, HS poles get abused for many years. Most high schools don't buy many poles, so you have some athletes using poles ...

Hunter sets M60 record @ outdoor championships

A new US masters PV record of 4.04 m (M60) was set this past weekend at the OD USATF Masters championship @ GVSU in MI. Here's a video of his vault from the meet: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wcn0mjuwmPI - Thanks to Ken Stone for making & posting this video on YouTube for us all to enjoy! In ...

Re: Can't stop going to the left

I'll take a stab.... In looking at your video, and trying my best with quick mouse clicks to go nearly frame-by-frame, I see you are pretty well lined up at the plant and keep it well lined up through the swing. However, when you get to the inversion, you spread your legs, and it looks like you are ...

Re: Any advice appreciated

I agree with Kirk, they are doing great, and I'm happy to see that they are both getting coaching. I just want to give you one thing I observed in both videos that they should work on, and I'm sure their coach is already telling them this - they need to get their hands up sooner. Both need to have t...

Re: Review

For a 15-YO, with just one year of vaulting, you are doing fantastic. Clearly you are getting some quality coaching. Because I strongly believe that you are being coach well, I'm not sure why you are asking for advice here. A pit side coach, especially one whom you work with regularly, is way better...

Re: Review my vault

What I can see is that you can't invert because you are not swinging. At the instant just before your takeoff foot leaves the ground, you are in a decent position. Not perfect, but good for now. After that, you pull your trail leg into a 90 degree bend, and then you try to roll inverted while tucked...

Re: Thoughts about my season/Off season training

Is your PR on your profile current? If you are using those poles, and your PR is 11', you have a long way to go to 14-15'. I suspect that you have jumped higher if you are on blowing through the Altius 13'9"-160. Update your PR on your profile! You need to get some coaching, and have poles to u...
