Re: Need advice about poles
(there is no such thing as "free freight") You're right, but there's a thing called a "discount" off of retail price. A discount is a discount and it can be given in multiple ways. I chose to call it "free shipping" (meaning I'll pay for the shipping costs) especially ...

Re: Need advice about poles
I'm an authorized UCS dealer and can give you free shipping if you purchase 4 poles. Saves about $155.00. Send me an email if you're interested and I can work with you to determine the best poles for your team in a "general" sense while trying to also match your known vaulters. chris@mansf...

Re: Use of raised runway for outdoor track (SC)
I designed a portable raised wooden runway a couple of years ago and am in the process of creating a build pamphlet for it. I've had coaches across the country ask me for the plans. I want to do it right and so I've created 3D drawings using Google Sketchup to create the pamphlet. All my drawings ar...

Re: Does the Russian model represent ideal technique?
Formatted Altius' post so it was more readable and you could see who made what comments :D Is what you're teaching as a coach setting an athlete up to jump higher or to look the part? This is what I tell people. (Courtesy of Roman and Dan Issac) Forget about pretty jumps, look for any delays you mig...

Re: Does the Russian model represent ideal technique?
I could post equations and pictures, but lets use basic logic to more easily understand it. It's much easier to bend/load any pole by applying force at the very end of the pole. This is exactly how Jan Johnson created the "best flex" chart. The lower your grip the more force it takes to b...

Re: Does the Russian model represent ideal technique?
Before I state this I in no way teach a tuck and shoot style of vault. I grasp its principles and reasoning I just don't coach it. However, I would like to hear from superpipe as to how it is flawed according to physics? How do the principles in its basic design go agaisnt modern physics? Please ex...

Re: Does the Russian model represent ideal technique?
Ha. Not my athlete. She worked with Vertical Assault PV Club in PA. She came from a gymnastics background and most gymnasts seem to have phenom swings. Their approach runs and take-offs are usually the biggest issues for them. Yeah, crazy good form and a ridiculous jump for that pole size. That was ...

Re: Does the Russian model represent ideal technique?
I beg to differ. The technique has been there for a long time to accomplish big push offs well over 4'. The problem is 95% of the world refuses to use the same technique as Bubka. More specifically, a straight trail leg swing. Most vaulters are taught the "tuck and shoot" method ( even if...

Re: Does the Russian model represent ideal technique?
Increased push off is not quite the factor of the bent pole it seems. It's the huge advantage in Grip height. Either as vaulters/coaches we have not found a way to use the recoil action of the bent pole or its advantage is not as great as it would seem. If it was the holy grail we would see pushes ...
