Re: Scholarships
IMHO, it's a bit short sighted choose a lower tier university just because they throw you some money. It may save you money for 4 years but but it will definitely hamper your earning potential over the next 30 years. Sure, with hard work, you can get rich and be successful, yadda yadda yadda but if...

Re: Weight Training: Case of Allyson Felix
For Allyson, an increase from 120 to 125 lbs is a significant difference. She needs to develop her connective tissues and stabilizer muscles to in order to fully benefit from her stength gain and prevent injury. An important part of an elite athlete's training is preventing injury, not waiting unti...

Re: building speed
hello i have posted some training for speed somewhere... but most important. 1. application of force. that is done with proper technique and strength.. dead lift is the number one exercise in the weight room.. keep the heels flat to the floor (which helps ankle flexibility), back flat, low sets and...

Re: Weight/Strength Training Question..
'Ive read threads on this forum about training but i was just wondering if i would gain any weight from them... If it were possible to gain weight from reading threads on pvp many of the regular readers would weigh over 300 lbs by now!!!! Sorry -just had to get that in. ;) Ha. Good joke... To...

Re: Strength training for beginners
First and foremost, I would like to say that my experience teaching somebody how to vault with no experience, is not much. I have worked with a lot of beginners, intermediate, and even a few advanced guys, but not much with the people that have never touched a pole...just my little disclaimer... Str...

Re: Any Strength and Conditioning coaches out there?
Yes, I have a CSCS...feel free to send me a PM or an email.
Biomechanics, physics and S&C training are what I would call specialties...if I were to be specific...but I don't know much about endurance training and/or nutrition.

Re: Biomechanics Project – Berlin 2009
I'm not sure I'm calculating this right, but it looks that Rens Blom had a 1.19meter pushoff (2cm's more than at the world record of Bubka...). His gripheight was 4.81 (minus 20cm box) and the barheight was 5.80. Thats a worldclass pushoff! How did he do this? What was so good about this jump? His ...

Re: PULL UPS
I don't think I ever did clap pull ups. For a while we did them where we let go of the bar on top, switched our hands and caught ourselves in a chin up position with our elbows at 90 degrees...interesting at least... I agree with Becca, if you can do 15-20, the next 10 are not going to make you pole...

Look here--I think you can get what you need for much less than 500 bucks. Vernier puts out some good scientific testing equipment.

Re:
Could you explain what effect length has on flex numbers. I assume then that with longer poles they space the supports farther apart when measuring. Is this true? Say if you have a 14’ 150 and it’s flex falls between 20.0 and 21.0. Will a 15’ 150 also fall between 20.0 and 21.0, or will it be...

Re: Sweetest Idea for standards
If you are willing to settle for a switch (vs. a pressure sensor) the engineer of the system is quite easy. Get some wire, a couple batteries, a light switch and an intro physics/e.e. book. If you are wanting the pressure sensor, that's going to take a bit more time and money... but a good idea...
