Re: Weighing vaulters....
I agree. I know that often some of my success is due to the large amount of poles I own. I have a 13' 115 through 13' 175 which is really helpful for my beginners. I know plenty of coaches who do a great job, but because they don't have the poles they are sometimes forced to things they really shoul...

Re: The next generation needs change
Thank you for your post Joe. A couple things. One I do not want USATF to give me a facility. I apologize if I made it seem that way. ADTF, you said it would cost $125,000 for the facility you describe, make it even $250,000 to make it a little larger and USATF could build one or two a year around th...

Re: The next generation needs change
Becca I understand what you are saying about gymnastics. I'll be honest I have no idea about that situation, but I don't think we should be using gymnastics as our model. US Lacrosse has grown by leaps and bounds. It helps people find facilities and has a grant program for equipment for first year p...

Re: The next generation needs change
Sorry to be brief. I'll write more in a few days. I really like a lot of what has been said over the last few days. I agree with ADTF Academy. And I don't know whether or not I am on his side or not but I am. I train a post-collegiate vaulter currently and over the past few years have trained an una...

Re: The next generation needs change
I believe Andy_C understands what I am trying to say. The only reason I have not mentioned other country’s programs was because too many people would point out the different social, economic, and political climates. The US Lacrosse Foundation is a group that has implemented the grassroots efforts th...

The next generation needs change
The State of Track and Field in the US USATF and the people who are some of our leaders in the pole vault world have little concern over building a program and system that can produce elite athletes. Alan Launder asked where our next generation of pole-vaulters are, and I believe we are looking for ...

Re: Opinion of Technique (Kurt Dunn and Rory Quiller)
First to answer Joe's question the reason a vaulter, who has an efficient vault, doesn't jump higher is due to lack of grip. Kurt does have some work to do on his run and take off, which I know he is working on. His pr is 17'3" with a 14'9" grip. Minus the 8" in the box he is clearing...

Re: The wrong idea and the possible dangers
DJ I totally understand what you are saying. Here's the thing, as a high school coach I have trouble enough, at the school I am at getting kids to try pole vaulting. So I don't really get a chance to choose athletes that can have success at an international level. However I do agree with you that th...

best jump by an unattached collegiate level athlete
Hey, wasn't sure what forum to put this in, but I guess it is a historical question. Does anyone know the highest vault by a an athlete that never jumped for a college?

Re: The wrong idea and the possible dangers
The bottom line is you have to have a coach that understands the basic physics of the event and that doesn’t put “bravado” a head of safety, even if you have to exclude someone for their own safety and an athlete that is will to put in the work to become successful. I am not talking about kids who ...

Re: The wrong idea and the possible dangers
Yes I agree with the last two posts. Coaching high school athletes does not always allow you to work with the best athletes. In fact when you do a good job with someone who is an average athlete at best many head coaches begin to give you sub par athletes to work with. They do not want to give up th...
