jumping with or behind the pole ??

i know that personaly there are two distinct ways of jumping that stand out to me and they are the people that jump with the pole and the people that jump behind the pole. i think that it is better to be jumping behind the pole but i wanna hear some opinions if you dont know what i am talking about ...
