Re: push ups? sit ups? pull ups? whats the best for polevaulting

Sorry if I offend any PT's on this forum, but DON'T see a PT first! PTs are not orthopedic doctors and can't make a true diagnosis of any injury. They can take educated guesses just like you and me. Ortho's are great, yes. However, to say that you (or any other joe-shmoe on the street) could make a...

Training for Crew is much like cross-country running, along with a lot of lifting.

Re: power vs. aesthetics vs. endurance lifting

Also at the end of the year it is necessary to let the body relax for a month or two by going on light jogs and doing other relaxing activities to let the body recover. I don't disagree with any of the physiology. Jogging/cross training has its place... thats what I was getting at--but should not b...

Re: power vs. aesthetics vs. endurance lifting

This will be a higher volume then other lifts due to the high oxidative compacity of the abdominals, but even at this higher volume it will help to recruit more fast twitch motor units and make the type one (slow twitch) muscle fibers act more like type 2b, and 2x (fast twitch) muscle fibers since ...

Re: Swinging Bubkas

If it is a matter of strength, a simpler exercise called a body curl will get you going in the right direction. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2ks5242CrMs I have also had athletes just work on the leg lift portion, I have had them just work on the upper body portion (pressing both hands forward usin...

Re: Bubka physics

flipping a coin at the apex, where the v=0 at the highest point in it s parabolic path, the acceleration is -9.8, but its kinetic energy is 0. this is bc KE(translational) = 1/2m(v)^2. The potential energy is at its max as PE = mgh. So at the apex thats where the PE is the greatest, but to consider...

Re: Worst indoor season ever ?

I think tons of short run vaults are crucial for beginners who are learning PV technique and who generally have inconsistent runs that increase in inconsistentcy as they go longer. I hate seeing high school kids running from more than 5 lefts who are jumping less than 10' (boys) and have a mid mark...

Re: Worst indoor season ever ?

I am curious to hear peoples opinions on how they believe short runs can affect an athletes runway in general. It has been long agreed upon that the runway is a crucial (if not most crucial) component to the vault. My contention is that the short approach affects an athlete in a couple of ways; 1) c...
