Re: Can I get in to College?

Something for you to consider. You can walk on (or get the chance to) a D1 school and work with the track team and the vaulters and never see the track or a locker for 4 years. On the other hand if you did jump 13 or 14 feet this year you could go to a DII or DIII school and jump next year. What wo...

Re: shin splints

Your whole team should be doing as much as possible on the grass, not the track. Talk to your coach about letting you do as much as possible on the grass, including the warmup jog. Doing your light jogging barefoot on the grass does wonders for shin splints since your feet are put in the most natur...

Re: Runway Consistency

...most vaulters (myself included) step on the runway and feel like we have to run fast. This is inefficient and inconsistent. We forget that it is more important to stay relaxed and technically sound than it is to try to run fast. In fact, if you do want to run at top controllable speed at the box...

Re: The Snatch

So now I have been looking... does anyone have some hard numbers on the snatch? Of what I have found, research tends to just say, "power clean and power snatch are very similar in peak power output curves," but without any data. I have searched the journals that I have access to and have f...

Re: The Snatch

Snatch is a great exercise IMO for vaulters (great power output, full body motion and posterior chain activation) but yes, you need to know what you are doing . Ask your strength coach to take you through it (and invariably, every strength coach will have a different approach to teaching it, so I wo...

Re: Training ideas.

I assume you are finding time to do a serious amount of drill work and at least one session of full run ups -away from the box - each week. No point in getting stronger if you do not improve your technique. Yeah, we only did 1 plyo workout a week, although we didn't do as many pole runs and a...

Re: Training ideas.

Thank you that is very helpful. I do have bad shin splints so i do limit the impact on my jumps as much as i can for that reason. Ill definetly take what you said though for the rest of my workouts. Thanks a lot One thing that can help is doing your plyos on either a basketball court, turf, grass (...

New to Indianapolis...

Hey all-- I have recently moved from San Diego to Indianapolis (Brownsburg area) and am looking for a couple things. First and foremost, to get involved in the PV community one way or another out here. I don't know that I could be a full time coach or anything given my work schedule, but would like ...
