Re: staying behind the pole?

I'm not sure how asking a question is over analyzing... I'm definately behind the pole at take off, stiff or bending pole. my take off has never been as good as it has been this week My hips are above my shoulders before the recoil, but I"m not inverted until the pole has almost finished unbendi...

Re: staying behind the pole?

I'm definately not pulling with my top hand. At take off I am pushing up and forward. My hand does stretch far behind my head but it feels like I am more elastic when I penetrate with my chestbefore swinging. When I stay behind the pole I focus on my bottom arm not blocking out When I keep my chest ...

Re: The One-Arm Drill

Just my 2 cents I never did a one arm until a few months ago when one of the pole vault guru's in the state used them religiously. . . in high school I was taught to block out with my bottom arm, It took me all last year to break that habit doing lots and lots of sand drills. . . Since this season I...

Re: staying behind the pole?

On a stiff pole, I feel like I have to delay my swing, or maybe it just feels like to takes longer to finish my take off. . . Today while jumping I was able to start my swing immediately after take off without any pause or hesitation. I was able to feel part of my vaulting very clearly, probably bec...

Re: staying behind the pole?

Then how long should you stay behind the pole?

If you want to stay behind the pole at take off and ahead of the pole at the recoil is the swing when you work ahead?

staying behind the pole?

Could some people please clarify exactly what staying behind the pole means and how to excute this and why? Or if you disagree and believe you should not stay behind the pole and why? I have read many people (almost everyone I think) promote staying behind the pole and just a few promote staying wit...

Re: You know you're a true pole vaulter when...

I can't believe they censored the name of my favorite sporting good store. What if a famous pole vaulter was named Richard but preferred the shorter version of his name? If you can properly pronounce the names of a couple dozen foriegn athletes If you pretend your pole vaulting while mopping or swee...

Re: help with insane high exercise

Tamminga is a beast and made that look so easy just a little harder than a giant. not at all what I had pictured. Even with that kind of double leg swing I wasn't any closer. Is there a name for that move? Or can someone of expertise give it a name so I don't keep calling it the really hard high bar...
