Re: How/When to pull when inverted
Drew, let me remind you that you did say: Criticize the Jumps as MUCH as possible. But I get the sense that you're not wanting to accept my criticism. This is a little contradictory, don't you think? Strangely enough, #4 was what I consider my most important point, yet you consider it "opiniona...

Re: Take-Off and Reverse-C Suggestions?
I will be back at the park on Sunday so if you see anything I can improve on please let me know, I will try to video again Sunday. Your top arm looks fine, but you seem to be pushing with your bottom arm. Instead, you should be letting your chest drive thru (keeping your bottom arm relaxed). Perhap...

Re: How/When to pull when inverted
Currently we are struggling with the top end. I've never really been taught what to do up top. Drew, you mention what you're doing "right", but not what you're doing "wrong". Here's my list (I won't mention anything before your takeoff, but there's issues there too): 1. You're t...

Re: Take-Off and Reverse-C Suggestions?
Months and months. I was hoping for weeks and weeks :dazed: ... I will definitely start the shoulder stretching though. It's only the 1st week in Oct, so you have about 3 months before the indoor season starts, don't you? Or where do you live? Try and find or build a highbar or rings. At any rate, ...

Re: Take-Off and Reverse-C Suggestions?
So I have been working on jumping off the ball of my foot, which is definitely a learned technique. When I watch Eliza in the video she looks like she comes off her toes at the take-off ... Jumping off the ball of your foot is correct. It might appear that Eliza "comes off her toes", but ...

Is she pushing it back or is that flexibility? Are there drills I could be doing in my backyard that can help me get there? Both. Check out my series of posts, starting here: http://www.polevaultpower.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=38&t=15483&hilit=bryde+bend In particular, read my Post #13. Onc...

Re: Lower Back Brace
Back pain while vaulting is an indication of incorrect technique - usually taking off under. I would rather that the vaulter corrects his technical faults than using any "crutches" to avoid the pain caused by the bad technique. And once injured, I would rather that the vaulter stays off th...

Re: Sandi Morris becomes 2nd woman to clear 5.0m
Yes, that was a great jump, Sandi!
But to clarify, I think it was 2nd woman to clear 5.00 outdoors. Izzi was the first. Jenn Suhr did 5.03 indoors.

Re: Tako grip tape?
... he was sliding his hand down the tako tape and rolling it. You can only unroll it so many times before its useless. With any tape (not just Tako Grip) if you apply it from top to bottom, then the tape edges will roll. Not so if you apply it from bottom to top (leaving a bit of an overlap which ...

Re: Tako grip tape?
You may have notice in the Rio Olympics that most of the men used gymnastics chalk.
Some had issues with their hands getting wet when they landed in the wet pit (after that downpour). Chalk + water = muck.
How well does Tako Grip tape work when your hands (or the pole) are wet?

Re: Pole Vault Clubs/Coaches Near Santa Barbara
I found a guy in Simi Valley. Brooks Morris. Brooks Morris is more than just "a guy". He's the son of 1960 Olympics Silver Medalist Ron Morris. I don't know Brooks, but I'll bet he's a very good coach, based on his lineage and his PR (17-5) and track record (as a vaulter and a vault coach...

Re: grip tape
Electrician's tape and lighter fluid? I wouldn't go that way though. Especially in rain, it's a bad combo. The lighter fluid is also very bad for the skin on your hands - it dries them out, and it can actually be *too* sticky. In the Rio Olympics, it looked like Piotr Lisek might have used this. Mos...
