I began with shoulder-width, which was fine when I was a beginner but is now a problem and a HUGE handgrip. It's been a slow road to get it small enough so I can actually bend my left arm and get back. I think that you should start off with as short a grip as is comfortable and then work from there....

For someone who doesn't get to go to practice regularly, doesn't have coach, doesn't get to ice or get stretched ever, has to bring his daughter to practice or meets sometimes, is lucky if he gets 2 hours at practice because he lets his wife go out there for the rest of the time and jump, and spends...

Sorry...I too was trying to make the point to start both a run and a run back with the same foot. I didn't mean to insinuate that you can't start with the foot you want to start with. I just see most right handers take their first step with the right foot, and was using it as an example. I suppose I...

Someone who takes off on their left should step back with their right foot and take the first step with the right foot. And vice versa. Running a step back should be done just as if you were doing your real run. Otherwise it's not going to be on. It doesn't make sense to start with a different foot ...

I can SO relate... I've been out for a while (ie 3.5 years) and am super frustrated with my inability to come from longer than 4 lefts right now. It's taking lots of patience and lots of reps to get more confident from anything longer. Like someone already said...small poles, low handgrip, short run...
