Bruce, your FLAME POLE TIP looks interesting ... but I don't understand your description of it. I get how it moves the butt of your pole away from the stopboard ... increasing the angle by up to 5 degrees (you say 110 degrees, but I know what you mean).

But I don't understand this ...
... this creates a greater angle in the box to allow you to handle 2.2 to 4.4 lbs stiffer poles.

What I don't understand is that if a pole is stiffer, won't it bend LESS (not more)? So how does a softer pole NOT touch the top edge of the box (near the corner) ... but a stiffer one does (without the FLAME POLE TIP)?

I also don't understand this ...

Engineered to show you how you are planting the pole. Bottom ridges show slight wear to indicate if the plant was complete or incomplete. A great tool to determine if you are getting full rotation of the pole before it enters the box necessary to complete the plant.

What do you mean by a "complete" plant?

And what do you mean by "full rotation of the pole before it enters the box"?

BTW, I think this butt plug is great! It's just some of your claims that I don't understand.

Last 2 questions: What's the diameter of the plug ... at it's widest ... and is this plug legal (NFHS, NCAA, IAAF) or just for training?

Legal Yes been used for over 20 years by those who realize i

Thank you for your questions!
What I don't understand is that if a pole is stiffer, won't it bend LESS (not more)? So how does a softer pole NOT touch the top edge of the box (near the corner) ... but a stiffer one does (without the FLAME POLE TIP)?

A greater angle is created by the pole tip moving the bottom of the pole from the back of the box and the point where the pole is at the top of the box is now lower, which mean you have the pole simulated as deeper in the box as well as the angle allows you to get a better fulcrum on the pole to bend it with less power needed to roll the pole over. One can use a stiffer pole with this less energy needed!
Take a small piece of pole 12" long, place in the box then mover the pole stick out at the bottom 1/2-3/4 of an inch see how the angle changes. It is like the box has been buried deeper by 1 inch and the angle has changes to allow more energy to bend the pole over!
Yes the tip still touches the corner of the box but at a new angle depending on the size of the pole tip! If your pole moves tot eh corners the angle is also increased at these points by another 5 Degrees.
Moving to a stiffer pole feels the same as a softer pole under the same circumstances! If you are on another brand pole that is too soft for you please keep this in mind, as the pole will bend much more with this tip on it! Best used when moving to the the next pole needed!
What do you mean by a "complete" plant?
And what do you mean by "full rotation of the pole before it enters the box"?

The ridges on the back of the tip touch less than a normal tip thus less friction in tot he box and if the pole plant is not completed. The slight wear on the tips edges will tell you that you did not complete the plant unless the wear is on the back two ridges, having wear on the right or left edges proves you are not completing your plant!
Yes it is legal, not thing in the rules impedes the usage of the tip. We have been putting them on ESSX poles now for over 3 years!
Bruce
Full rotation of the plant is a complete plant.
Younger vaulters do not complete the plant and plant near with the pole at their ear.
This tip shows you exactly where you have planted the pole and if you have gotten full rotation!

The tip is only .75 bigger than a normal tip at it's girth and yes I am serious about it changing the angle in the box so you can use a stiffer pole!
This angle will vary with the length of pole and the grip you use, obviously a 12'4" would not have the same angle as a 15' pole, however that is the beauty of the thingy, the angle increases due to the better vaulters needs!

Are you serious about a 1.0" difference from a 0.75" radius wider plug? What's the diameter of the plug? Is it really 1.5" wider at its girth than a normal butt plug?

I understand that the 5 degree angle increase provides more "freedom" for the pole to move, but I still don't understand how this translates to getting onto bigger poles. If you ALWAYS use the FLAME POLE TIP, then there should be no difference when you move up a pole ... compared to if you ALWAYS use a normal butt plug. Are you proposing that a vaulter should use the FLAME POLE TIP only when he's moving up a pole, then switch back to a normal plug?

I thought I was pretty good at Physics, but I just don't get it ... not just this one point, but the whole concept.

ESSX wrote: The ridges on the back of the tip touch less than a normal tip thus less friction into the box ...

I don't get this either. Friction is friction ... and just becuz it's concentrated onto the ridges (less spread out) doesn't mean there's less overall friction ... unless it's a harder rubber. If there is a difference, the difference has to be so miniscule that it seems to be a trivial selling point.

You have a good point if the tip touches twice on two edges when sliding in the box one would think yes more contact more friction!
However the edges do promote less contact and a smaller sliding surface than rubber or plastic pole tips.
Most other pole tips deform upon inpact creating a larger surface contact area. The ESSX tip will not deform upon impact due to the special poly material we use!
Euru poly seems to have a shinny and less frictionless surface compared to matte surface PVC or Lexan surfaces.
Is this a trivial selling point? Not compared to Rubber pole tips!

Proof of the pudding is to try the pudding!

It is April now! How can I order 3 or 4 EssX butt plugs? I need instruction how to use my schools PO process. thanks, Jim Anderson, Vault coach at Sisters HS in Central Oregon, where our invitational was cancelled due to 2-3" of new snow!
