Katelin Rains PRs already and set D2 indoor record

Mankato, Minn. – The defending NCAA Division II national champion in the pole vault, Minnesota State junior Katelin Rains (Spring Lake Park, Minn.) erased her own NCAA indoor meet record Saturday, as she cleared 14’ 1/2 to set a new NCAA Division II indoor record. After setting her new record, she attempted a vault of 14’4 but did not clear the mark. This is her first competition since clearing 14’0 at the NCAA Division II national meet a season ago.
Also placing in the pole vault were Minnesota State sophomore Whitney Kroshel (Afton, Minn.) and freshman Lauren Stelten (Cologne, Minn.), finishing third (11’10) and fourth (11’6) respectively.
Minnesota State grabbed the top three spots in the women’s 1000m run as freshman Amber Henne (Moorhead, Minn.), junior Rachel Smalley (LaCrosse, Wis.), and senior Amanda Dettman (Hutchinson, Minn.) finished first, second, and third, respectively.
In the women’s 800 meter run, senior Jenny Goesch (Germantown, Wis.) finished second (2:21.11), while freshman Laura Palmer (Pittsville, Wis.) finished fourth (2:23.38).
Junior Kaycie Merrihew (Rio, Wis.) finished second in the 60m hurdles in 9.25 seconds.
Sophomore Linnelle Clark (Milwaukee, Wis.) finished second in the 60m dash with a time of 7.88 seconds.
Sophomore Brittany Henderson (Milwaukee, Wis.) finished second in the 200m dash with a time of 25.12 seconds.
Sophomore Jessica Smith (Mankato, Minn.) finished first in the 400m dash (1:01.11), while sophomore teammate Kelsey Leonard (Hermantown, Minn.) finished second (1:01.83).
Sophomore Jenny Hoese (Watertown, Minn.) won the 3000m run with a time of 10:35.70, while sophomore teammate Lindsay Broughten (Lakeville, Minn.) finished second (11:01.56), junior Samantha Smith (Wright, Minn.) finished third (11;11.62), and sophomore Meagan McConnell (Quinnesec, Mich.) finished fifth (12:01.92).
Linnelle Clark placed fifth in the women’s long jump with a leap of 16.56 ft. (5.05m).
Freshman Ashton Schuster (Maple Lake, Minn.) placed fifth in the triple jump with a distance of 32.91 ft. (10.03m).
Freshman Brita Johnson (Balaton, Minn.) finished fourth in the shot put with a throw of 40.98 ft. (12.49m)
The 4X400 meter relay team of Jenny Goesh, Kelsey Leonard, Brittany Henderson, and sophomore Alissa Kurke (Anoka, Minn.) finished third with a time of 4:05.04.
Only top-five finishes were included in this release.
No team scores were kept at the event.
