BATON ROUGE -- With the start of the 2009 indoor season just two weeks away, four LSU pole vaulters took time out of their busy training schedule on Thursday morning to visit patients in the children's hospital at a local hospital.
Senior Mallory Thompson, junior Katelyn Rodrigue, sophomore Lauren Saucier and freshman Rachel Laurent went room to room visiting with patients and their families, while playing games and handing out LSU temporary tattoos to the children.
“I loved seeing the kids smile,” Laurent said. “Their faces lit up when we walked into the rooms.”
“Both the parents and the kids were so positive,” Saucier added. “It’s nice to be able to share our stories and experiences with the different families we saw.”
Both the Tigers and Lady Tigers are set to open the 2009 season on Jan. 23 as they host the 2009 Purple Tiger Classic at the Carl Maddox Fieldhouse. The Lady Tigers will open the season with a No. 2 national ranking, while the Tigers are ranked No. 8 in the preseason ranking released by the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association on Thursday.
