In Michigan, Grand Valley State is where its at. Lou knows his stuff and the facilities up there are top notch. GVSU is DII I believe, and it presents a great opportunity to jump high.

"TONS of research" would mean visiting the colleges themselves, meeting extensively with the coaches, twice as much with their athletes, actually knowing what they jump at meets, what they jumped BEFORE college, and having a good idea about what the weather is like. Do you know what the average temperature is at Purdue during outdoor season? What about wind? I think that would be "TONS" of research...

But I will say that UCLA seems like an excellent place to vault; Curran is an awesome coach... If only it weren't in the ghetto!

You might be thinking about USC. It's located in a "not-so-nice" area of LA, though the campus itself is quite good.

UCLA has a great location, near Beverly Hills if I can remember correctly.

Here is some Reserach

UCLA

Athleate High School PR College PR
Casey DiCesare 16-5 (listed on profile as finishing with 16-0.75
Dustin DeLeo 16-2 18-1
Scott DiCesare 15-6 15-7
Johnny Quinn 16-8 17-5
Greg Woepse 16-7 17-1
Riley Egan 16-7 To Be Announced
Bobby Talley 12-6 17-1

I think ur last one there shows that the coach knows what he is doing... but how many pole vaulters does one school need? Spread the wealth.

This shows they are a college that can produce good vaulters but like everyone has said it all depends what is right for you. If you are a born natural athleate and just need some tweaking to go with ur vault then a school like UCLA might be good for you. But no one ever really knows what each athleate may have or may not have done had they gone to another college. So no ammount of resarch can truly give you the ultimate answer. There could be a school out there with the best unknown pole vault coach in the world, he just might not have gotten the right athleate yet. No one would look at a school as being a good school had they not produced several 17' vaulters.

the 'last one' on that list worked hard between high school and attending UCLA... Not to take anything away from Coach Curran at UCLA, but don't think he earned a spot on the UCLA pole vault squad with a 12-06 PR :P (most girls there jumped higher than that in high school..)

way to go bob

Real quick, I don't claim to know much about the best schools for the vault, but wouldn't it be advisable to go to a school with an individual vault coach? Someone who would be there to help you fix things without having the worry of the rest of the team on their other brain. Is this a good quality to have?
