The results of the UW Final Qualifier men's pole vault doesn't do the meet justice, as it was a bizarre finish:

http://paulmerca.blogspot.com/2010/03/m ... le-at.html

Pole vault story is about 2/3rds of the way down if you want to skip the Galen Rupp stuff...

Not only was the end interesting, so was the middle. Lots of PRs and clutch jumps to keep the bar moving. Best competition I've been a part of hands down, both in heights and energy.

The results from the Virginia Tech Last Chance that will change the descending order list are as follows:

Hunter Hall - VT - 5.42m (PR)
Michael Uhle - Akron - 5.42m (double PR)

Vica Shobe - USC - 4.22m (1cm PR)
Kat Majester - Georgia - 4.25m (double PR)

I think that should make 5.38 the cutoff this year?

Also, its a good thing the NCAA moved auto for women to 4.25, or else they would have to take a big field of 21 girls... all which would have been autos at 4.20.

4.35 next year?

I think they should leave provisional at 4.00 but raise auto to 4.30 so that it's a 30cm spread like the guys have.

Also, I thought the height progression for the last chance meets was dictated by the NCAA?

The results from the Virginia Tech Last Chance that will change the descending order list are as follows:

Hunter Hall - VT - 5.42m (PR)
Michael Uhle - Akron - 5.42m (double PR)

Congrats to Hunter and Michael! Good luck at nationals!

No. Typically we figure out what bar is needed to go to the big show and make the progression up and down from there.

I think that would be a good idea, however. Maybe if the NCAA got input from all last chance meet-hosting coaches and set the progression all the way up to auto. We are at a disadvantage out here because our results are posted three hours before the west coast. If timing is right, they can change their progression based on our earlier results. It gets us a bit nervous each year.

PS... Everyone I mentioned in my post above is firing on all cylinders and they are all serious contenders this year.

Good luck to all... including all three VT boys.

Our officials Association said that the time schedule and bar progression was set by the NCAA *shrug*
