Master in Texas

Got a call yesterday morning from my good friend, John Altendorf, or “Master” as he’s known on PVP. For those who don’t know he’s also the only 60 year old in history to make 13’ and 4m (13’ 1 ½”) EVER. He’s done it both indoors and out.

Anyway, he calls from Huntsville which is only 40 miles from me. Seems he’s been deployed by the Red Cross to help hurricane evacuees from Hurricane Ike, which will arrive in full force tonight. We’ll get together when he gets a day off.

Actually that will be the second stop on his “Tour of Ike”. Since Ike was originally projected to go to Florida, John was sent to Orlando first where he sat and waited for the storm’s new direction. SO, he calls masters icon Joe Johnston and gets to spend the night at his place and catch up on vault stuff.

Just goes to show, no matter where you go there is always a vaulter nearby. Bubba

Awesome work. John.

Be safe.

We survived Ike with no damage but four days of no power or phones, compounded by a useless cellular network, made it interesting. When 2.3 million homes are without the same, they all try and use their cell phones so no one gets through. I could get voice mails and emails on my Blackberry but all responses were bounced. Many were less fortunate and our prayers are with them. Bubba

Glad you're okay, Bubba.

Any word on Butler?

God Bless Texas.

Thanks, DJ.

BTW, one the way back down the hill from Tahoe a couple of weekends ago, I ran into one of your athletes from your socal high school days (Marina?). I think his name was Brian. We started talking when I noticed a UT Track t-shirt. Apparently, he had met you in Dallasville when you were in town for a clinic and he scored the t-shirt from someone.

Spoke to David after work today. I might be able to get together with him Saturday.
