Masters beginner learning PV for decathlon - SE Michigan

Unread postby aborgman » Wed Jun 08, 2011 3:44 pm

Hello everyone,

I'm a 37 year old Masters track athlete who has never pole vaulted. Out of a desire to do a couple decathlons next summer, and the requirements of USATF rule 200.8 (basically you can't just take a zero in an event)... I'm looking to try and learn to vault at at least a minimal level.

At least enough that I can get my zero points the old fashioned way - by getting zero height - and without seriously injuring myself. :)

All the other events I'm passably competent in. For a note - decathlon folks in my age group seem to be vaulting in the 2-3m range.

The big issue is - I really have no access to anyone who knows anything about vaulting, I really don't have access to any place to vault, etc., etc., etc.

So, suggestions? Clinics or coaches open to 37 year old rank beginners in Michigan?

Thanks much everyone,

Though I don't see it here yet I'm sure you will get help. Lots of masters vaulters up that way. Good luck and welcome! Bubba

email me - can find info at www.decamouse.com -- also Masters Multievent info -- we will be having some free saturday morning vault sessions this summer -- couple hour drive depending where in Southern Michigan - otherwise can probably hook you up with vaulters in your area

I have a group of masters-- and others who vault at my place on a semi-regular schedule. Most of us do some coaching and coach each other and would be glad to get someone new started. I live north of Chelsea so that may be a reasonable drive from where you are. I'm out of town for the National Senior Games next week but will likely be back on a workout schedule as soon as I return.

Send me an e-mail and I'll get you directions and specific times.
