Ever too late to begin vaulting?

Just wondering if it's ever too late to start out learning to pole vault? I'm 33 yrs old, and a total newbie. I've always wanted to try vaulting, but just never really had the opportunity. So I'd like to give it a go, but really have no clue how to get started or where to find a facility that has the equipment I'd need. Any advice from some of the veterans on here would be greatly appreciated.

Of course it's not too late! Where do you live?

I live in Charleston, SC. I figure it might not be easy to find a good facility here, but I also travel to work in Miami, FL a lot. So I suppose that could be another possible option for me.

It looks like you are about 2 hours away from a great facility: http://www.shealyathletics.com/

Not too late; I was 59. Still trying to figure it out, but enjoying the process. Hope you do, too!

Hey Nambi I am 54 been vaulting since I was 12 and I am still trying to figure it out...............we all are, that's what makes vaulting so much fun chasing the elusive bar and always learning. Best wishes with your training!

Cool. Thanks for the info. I'm planning to take my first vault by the end of this month. It all sounds like it will be a lot of fun and I'm really looking forward to it. I'll hopefully post back with my results.

Thanks Bubba! I'm wondering what would be a good result for my first day ever vaulting... perhaps just being able to run with the pole and plant it in the right spot, or perhaps more? Maybe I should set a goal just for fun? Since I'm 6' tall, if I could jump higher than myself that would be pretty cool. What do you guys think?

First day should focus on correct running and planting from a short approach maybe 2 or 3 lefts only........slowly! No bar just swing into the pit and land on your posterior (landing on your feet can injure ankles and knees). Learn to plant high and swing smoothly from the top arm. Seriously forget about the bar for a bit the height will come.
