State funds are sought to rebuild the lower bowl of Husky Stadium, address safety problems and improve disabled access.
The University of Washington wants to renovate and upgrade Husky Stadium with help from some of the same taxes the Seattle Sonics have tried to tap for the past three years.

The university's Board of Regents was briefed Thursday on the proposal to ask the state Legislature for $150 million in public money to renovate the stadium, much of which was built in 1920.

The UW would finance the rest of the $300 million project with donations and revenue from premium seating.

The university is hoping to pull off what the Sonics couldn't â€â€

Since UW is an urban campus is there room for a separate track stadium? I've never been there so i don't know.

I don't think so. Glancing at the sites on Google Maps, I guess you could squeeze a track somewhere (not around the soccer field though!), but not with any kind of seating of note.

They haven't been big on outdoor meets in awhile I guess (the weather sucks that time of year), but they are making a killing off indoor meets and getting lots of attention, so at least the program is no longer in danger of being cut.

You can type Husky Stadium, Seattle, WA on Google Maps and take a look at it.
