Kelso senior Jordan Wishard wasted little time making his mark on the new track and field season for the Kelso Hilanders.

Wishard, on his first attempt of the year, cleared 14 feet, 9 inches to set a school record in the pole vault for the Kelso boys, who beat R.A. Long 111-25 and W.F. West 133-12 in a nonleague double-double at Kelso High on Tuesday.

On the girls' side, Kelso claimed 113-37 and 120-29 wins over RAL and W.F. West, respectively.

RAL's teams posted a pair of victories against W.F. West (76-53 boys, 70-58 girls).

Wishard's vault, which came in cool and damp conditions, broke the previous record of 14-6 established by Terry Anshutz in 1998. Wishard also won the triple jump at 42-1.

"That was really impressive, breaking a record in the first meet of the season," Kelso coach Joe Krieder said. "In both the boys' and girls' sides of the meet, we had a lot of PRs (personal records) in less-than-ideal weather conditions. The kids are working really hard."
