Burlington-Edison looking strong
For years, the Squalicum Storm has maintained pole vaulting supremacy among Northwest 3A League schools, with teammates often battling each other for league titles.

But this year, the team dominating the league may be the Burlington-Edison Tigers.

At a recent meet with Squalicum, the Tigers swept the top three places among girls' vaulters and had the top two finishers in the boys' meet.

Leading the way for the boys was Aaron Stroud, who was recently voted the Seattle Times/WIAA Athlete of the Week after breaking the school record with a 14-foot vault.

Sophomore teammate Warren Brown cleared 13 feet against Squalicum, giving the Tiger boys a solid 1-2 punch in the event.

On the girls' side, Courtney Doughty matched her career best at 11-0. A two-time state placer, she won a state title in 2002.
