XC practice requirements shortened
Doug Pacey, THE BELLINGHAM HERALD

The reclassification amendment passed at last week's WIAA Rep Assembly meeting rightfully made the biggest news, but it also approved seven other amendments.

Among them was one that reduced the required number of cross country practices to become eligible from 12 to 10. Wrestlers will now be able to compete in 33 matches, instead of the previous total of 29.

Also, state championships will be permitted in sports that have at least 30 percent participation from schools in its classification. If the percentage is between 30-59, only eight teams will qualify, while 16 will advance if 60 percent of member schools participate.

The assembly failed amendments that would recognize cheerleading and dance/drill teams as sports.
