I did not like the way this meet was ran off, they should have flipped the pit, and avoided the headwind. Me along with other vaulters could have jumped way higher if done so. Did anyone else have any problems with it?

I am sorry about your disappointment with the way the meet was run. Every computer model the weather channels were predicting showed the wind to shift out of the south that morning. Even the NASA predictions showed south winds. All of the events were run with the anticipation of a south wind, based on the most scientific methods of predicting Texas weather. The only authority that was obviously missed was God, but he only gives weather forecasts to Aggies. Just to let you know, the pits would have been set up in about 15 minutes and we could have flipped the pits, but the wind was mild and not a danger to the athletes. The wind was constantly monitered and the best decision was made on the weather forecasters. Most of the "old folks" you see out there officiating are there because they are fans of the event, we like to see the best results possible. Again, I apologize about not having any control over the weather, I will work on that personal flaw. I did enjoy fridays competitions, even while I recognized there was a head wind, the athletes were definitely competeing well. Congrats to all the State finalists for making it to that level and the way they competed while they were there. One of the best group of champions I have ever gotten to officiate.
compete and jump safe, have fun

The winds were very light and swirling, turning the pits around would not have made any difference, there still would have been some tail and some head winds. It just wasn't a typical Texas day with a big tail wind and many of the vaulters didn't adjust and get on the right poles. Also you could tell many of the vaulters were use to always having a strong tail wind and without it they found some flaws in their jumps. Great job by the officials, they have no control over the weather.

I didn't mean it in an offending manner, I was just battling injury and had to go from 12 step and didn't do as well as I had hoped. I now realize it was just one of those things that happen. Plus I thought it was going to be the last time I was ever going to jump, until I was approached be a college. Sorry if I offended anyone. The officials did run the meet off good.
