Men's Qualifications Top PBs

Unread postby roger/over » Tue Aug 24, 2004 8:00 pm

The 2004 outdoor season has been a fairly quiet one for the men, so I was surprised at the list of PBs provided by the IAAF site. I don't follow the men's event nearly as closely as the women's, so I wasn't aware how tightly-grouped the top level of vaulters are in their all-time bests. I had settled into Toby Stevenson's comfortable, four-inch lead over Tim Mack and six-inch lead over Alex Averbukh in the 2004 seasonal rankings. To see that Markov and Brits had better PBs than Toby, two others were tied with his 6.00, and six more qualifiers were within 10 cms (4") makes this, at least on paper, a wide-open event!
