A Pike County, Ind., toddler died Monday from injuries he suffered when two cars collided near the Pike-Dubois county line.

The accident happened on Old State Road 64 near Zoar Church at 3:52 p.m. Monday.

According to the Pike County Sheriff's Office, Tina Hemmer of Stendal, Ind., was driving west on Old State Road 64 when a car driven by Mark Buse attempted to turn left onto the roadway from a county road.

The police report said Hemmer tried to stop and swerved into the eastbound lane, but she was not able to avoid hitting the rear driver's side door of Buse's car.

Hemmer, Buse and two children in the Buse vehicle were taken to Jasper Memorial Hospital for treatment. Twenty-two month old Blake E. Buse was taken by helicopter to St. Mary's Medical Center in Evansville, where he later died.

Police said the toddler and another child in the Buse car were in child safety seats at the time of the accident.
