After I plant and pop up, I tend sort of drift and fall over to the right. How can I change my plant so that I can keep my momentum moving forward and so I can go straight up?

or a plant to the right, jumping to the right, swinging to the right. Theres a topic on this, i think seriously RIGHT below this one.

Yeah, you probably should check out the topic below this one, but if you are pulling with your arms after takeoff, it will cause some spinning. Remember just to hang and swing agressively with your legs.

analyze your plant. Like the previous posts say, it could be late or you could not be getting your top arm straight up. Also, pulling after takeoff is bad like depvault said. But, i would suggest that you keep pushing thru the tip with your top arm, not just hang on, keeping it straight throughout your jump. this will keep more pressure on the pole allowing you more time to swing.

haha well it would help to know if you were a righty or lefty, cuz if you are swinging your arm up (shouldn't be swinging it) and you hit the box with your arm not in front of you, sorta off to the side, then you will drift to the side that your pole is pointing, idk if that makes sense, but to help you, we need to know if you are a lefty or righty

another thing that I wad told that helped me. Make sure you "punch the sky" on your plant and not swing your arms around. Once I "punched straight" I had a perfect (or so it felt) jump. Kinda hard to explain but I think you get the idea.

I may have been pole vaulting for only 3 weeks but i can still give some newb but good advice.;) Make sure your arm is close to your body when your bringing the back of the pole up to plant. I always had a tendency to swing my arm up about 3 inches away from my body. This messed me up every time.

You could be holding too high

You also might be directing your energy incorrectly, and that might be beucase of all of what people above said. Best way to fix that is bring the run down to 3 lefts and work on vaulting perfectly then slowly add lefts to get back up.

Your plant could be either late, or off center, most likely to the left.
OR
You could be forcing bend with your bottom arm, making you stall and fall.
OR a combination.
