I so wish I could have my vaulters do this right now. It's the six inches of a cold white substance and sub freezing temps that is stopping us. Great stuff!

Maybe you could try some of them on to a front bun, planting the pole on the floor in front of it?

I've seen similar work done indoors in a gym planting the pole on a towel on the floor with a thin mat to land on. It could substitute if you have prolonged bad weather. (the towel may have been wet to help it not slide but it was a video so your guess is as good as mine)

we were able to do some walkover type drills (with 0,1,2 Lefts) on the Cheer type mat rolls indoors and also on the commercial carpet rolls used to protect the gym floor from foot traffic during games...

it was certainly safer to push the grip height up on the cheer mats and we limited our time spent and grip heights on the non padded carpet... also, we had cut tennis balls on the pole tips - nice during inclement weather...
